Islam Makhachev details why no Dagestani fighters will ever fight against each other.
The Dagestani fighters are taking over the MMA realm at the moment. Under the guidance of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, it was Khabib who first emerged as the superstar. Concluding his career with a legendary 29-0 streak, âThe Eagleâ continued his fatherâs legacy and transitioned into coaching the future stars. Sure enough, several of his students are currently big names in the fight industry.
However, apart from immense discipline, Islam Makhachev recently revealed one more important rule that the Dagestani fighters never break.
Islam Makhachev Reflects On Brotherhood
Currently, the likes of Usman Nurmagomedov are heavily touted to join the UFC. Following his domination in the PFL, the lightweight star might opt for a change of promotions to amp things up. However, even if he ever does come to the UFC, Usman will never be fighting any of his Dagestani brothers.
In a recent interaction with Demetrious Johnson, Makhachev reflected, âWe have Chanko and Usman now going to the UFC most likely in the same weight class, but we will of course figure it out. We train, eat, and spend every day together. We are brothers and family before anything. For any of us to ever fight is not a possibility."
For context, Makhachev was referring to Magomed âChankoâ Zaynukov. Making his UFC debut in July 2026, Zaynukov is undefeated. Most importantly, he is in the lightweight division, which would probably also be the division where Usman would come in. However, despite all the push, the 28-year-old is still undecided.
Will Usman Nurmagomedov join Islam Makhachev, Fellow Dagestani Brothers in UFC?
After PFL New York, where Usman defeated Archie Colgan, his contract was out. This meant that the Russian mixed martial artist became a free agent. Having the option to switch promotions, fans and critics alike have called for his inclusion in the UFC. Even the UFC boss, Dana White, has expressed interest in acquiring the 28-year-old.
Taking things a notch higher, Daniel Cormier recently tried to convince Usman to come to the UFC. In an interaction during the UFC 330 event, DC asked Usman the most sought-after answer. But the fighter replied, âUFC brother lightweight is bums.â The former double champ then challenged the Dagestani, saying, âIt's time for legacy. You think they're bums? Come show me.â
