Jim Miller Submits Jared Gordon by Guillotine in Round 1 at UFC 328 — Reveals Son Is Cancer-Free

Veteran Lightweight Jim Miller had yet another Jim Miller type moment at UFC 328, finishing off a very close guillotine choke on Jared Gordon forcing him to submit early into Round 1. This submission adds to Miller's already impressive and record-breaking list of submissions within the UFC.
Jim Miller won against Jared Gordon via 1st round submission during the UFC 328 Preliminary Card Saturday evening in Newark, NJ and there was even a bigger moment when the cage door opened. Miller competed for the first time in nearly a year; he stopped competing so that he could spend time with his family. He told fans via the post-fight interview that his son Wyatt has officially beaten cancer.
Miller vs Gordon at UFC 328: How the Fight Ended
The bout, which took place on the UFC 328 results, (which featured Khamzat Chimaev vs Strickland) concluded with Miller adding yet another finish to a resume where he now ties for 2nd in all-time submissions in the UFC. With the first-round submission of Gordon, Miller recorded his 28th UFC win in his 47th appearance for the promotion, making him one of the most successful fighters in UFC history.
Miller emphasized that what occurred inside the Octagon was secondary to what occurred outside. "What he went through that is the true victory" In a heartfelt post-fight interview, Miller quickly moved from discussing the fight to his son:
"My win tonight has nothing to do with pride... I am damn proud of what I did tonight, but I am Hell Of A Lot Prouder of My Boy!" Miller continued. "What he went through, the way he fought, That Is The Real Win. What I Do Inside the Octagon Has Nothing To Do With The Fight He Went Through."
Miller placed his MMA career on hiatus for nearly a full year when Wyatt was diagnosed with a rare form of child-hood cancer. Instead of preparing for fight week, Miller spent those times visiting his son at the hospital and paid for his families health insurance himself as an independent contractor.
Why This UFC 328 Moment Will Be Remembered For Years To Come
Jim Millers first-round submission of Jared Gordon at UFC 328 will undoubtedly be documented as just another highlight reel of a fighter headed towards being enshrined into the UFC Hall Of Fame. However, this moment will be remembered because Jim Miller spoke to thousands upon thousands of people watching live or online and talked about a father whose son overcame something much harder than anything he has ever overcome in the octagon.
