Justin Gaethje wants to provoke Ilia Topuria as much as he can before his fight against him ahead of UFC Freedom 250.

Justin Gaethje has unleashed a scathing verbal assault on undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria ahead of their highly anticipated title bout. The interim lightweight titleholder didn't hold back as he took aim at his upcoming opponent's personality and recent high-profile personal matters.

During a recent interview with FOX Sports Australia, Gaethje completely dismissed the undefeated champion's persona. The American star labeled Topuria a fraud and explicitly brought up the champion's past relationship issues to get under his skin.

Gaethje slammed Topuria's behavior, stating, "All that guy is, is a gimmick. He calls himself the king. He thinks he's a God. What an annoying little bastard. I couldn't imagine being in a room with him for 30 minutes listening to him talk about himself."

The interim titleholder then reference the champion's highly publicized personal life. Escalating the psychological warfare to a completely new level, Gaethje concluded by saying, "All I can say is this: I would leave him. That's all I'm saying. No way I would put up with his s---t."

Intensity of UFC Freedom 250

This type of intense personal attack is common in the mixed martial arts world, especially when the stakes are incredibly high. Top-tier UFC competitors like Gaethje frequently weaponize press obligations to play mental games and disrupt the focus of their opponents before stepping into the cage.

Gaethje will bring a wealth of elite experience and an impressive 27-5 professional record into this historic lightweight unification showdown. "The Highlight" earned his position by securing a dominant unanimous decision victory over Paddy Pimblett to capture the interim strap earlier this year.

By contrast, Topuria sits at a flawless 17-0 record and currently reigns as the undisputed champion after a devastating knockout victory over Charles Oliveira. This intense war of words sets a volatile backdrop as both elite lightweights prepare to settle their differences at UFC Freedom 250 on June 14.

Topuria had already responded to something Gaethje said indirectly through his father, and it is highly likely that he will later respond to this new attack, which could be even harsher than any other a previous rival has tried to throw at him.
