‘That’s Disrespectful’: Dustin Poirier Reacts to Arman Tsarukyan’s Huge Betting Edge Over Justin Gaethje

Following Tsarukyan's massive win over Mauricio Ruffy last week at UFC 331, many fans and critics are pushing for a lightweight title fight for him. 

Similarly, Dustin Poirier also backed the Armenian for a shot at the belt, but believes the odds are ‘disrespectful’ toward Gaethje.

Dustin Poirier Defends Justin Gaethje 

During the Deep Waters Crew’s new episode, Din Thomas revealed Tsarukyan is a -450 favorite against Gaethje, who is at +350. 

Poirier bluntly replied, “That's disrespectful because what if Justin's wrestling holds up and you have to throw hands with him, you know, which is probably going to happen. Justin is a legitimate wrestler.”

Chris Weidman, who was also on the panel, firmly agreed with Poirier. He said, “He's got way better wrestling than Ruffy. That's a guarantee. He's tough as hell. You have to kill him.”

“I mean, he is a more credentialed wrestler than Arman,” Poirier added. 

Tsarukyan visibly struggled to take down Ruffy and took heavy shots in the initial minutes of the first round at UFC 331. However, he kept the momentum and found his moment with two strong elbows to Ruffy’s temple, which sent him to the canvas. 

Perhaps Ruffy’s takedown defense might have exposed a few gaps in Tsarukyan’s wrestling. However, it can only be said once they enter the cage. 

Is Arman Tsarukyan vs. Justin Gaethje Next? 

While Dana White also confirmed Tsarukyan is next for a title fight against Gaethje, the champion is not sure if he will fight again or retire. Gaethje is currently recovering from injuries sustained in his fight against Ilia Topuria. He will not return to the cage before early 2027. 

However, he is doubtful about his return and has confirmed that Tsarukyan will be his next opponent, not Ilia Topuria. For now, ‘The Highlight’ has stated he wants to enjoy his life as the UFC champion and will make a decision when the time comes. 

Tsarukyan, meanwhile, is prepared to take the fight but believes Gaethje could choose Topuria since he has already defeated him. Thus, fans will have to wait until an official decision is made.
