Tom Aspinall Reveals Early Career Struggles that Helped Him Attain Glory

Tom Aspinall details how he faced a lot of pressure early on, but having his kids completely transformed his mindset.
Tom Aspinall is the defending UFC Heavyweight Champion. His path to UFC glory was not a bed of roses. Rather, there were times when Aspinall was being questioned for not having a job. It was only after his kids were born that the UFC champion decided to pursue his dreams with an iron-clad mindset.
Tom Aspinall Cites His Kids as Biggest Motivation
Aspinall recently had a candid conversation about his life. Looking back at his path, he pointed out how his near and dear ones always pressured him to quit fighting. Trying to cover the cost of his training, Aspinall had to work part-time and devote the rest of his time to fighting. But all of these changed when he had kids.
āI had my first child when I was 23 years old, and I was fighting at the time. I wasn't fighting full-time, and I was working jobs to cover my training costs. And I had twins when I was 25 years old,ā Aspinall remembered.
The UFC champion recalled how his family always asked him to get a ārealā job so that he could support his kids. This immense pressure of success made him take up fighting full-time. Devoting his entire time to pursuing his dreams, the English fighter soon climbed the ladder and is now one of the most successful mixed martial artists in the world.
Who Does Tom Aspinall Fight Next?
Aspinall has a remarkable record in the UFC. Having lost only once, he has knocked out the likes of Curtis Blaydes, Sergei Pavlovich, and more. However, going up against Ciryl Gane, Aspinall could not continue his fight following an accidental eye poke that compromised his vision temporarily. Following the no-contest bout, there was a lot of criticism.
At the moment, there is no fixed return date for Aspinall. However, the heavyweight champion is expected to defend his title against Ciryl Gane. Having knocked out Alex Pereira, Gane looks to be the perfect choice for a shot at the heavyweight gold.
