UFC on ESPN 41 Results

The UFC brings the octagon to San Diego, California this weekend with an important matchup in the bantamweight division serving as the night’s main event. In the main event, Marlon Vera takes on a tough matchup as he goes up against the former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.

UFC on ESPN 41 Results – Main Event

Coming into this fight, Vera owns a 4-2 record since the beginning of 2020. He came into that year on a five fight win streak with notable wins over Guido CannettiFrankie Saenz, and Andre Ewell. In his first fight of 2020, Vera’s five fight win streak was snapped after he lost a close unanimous decision to Song Yadong at UFC on ESPN 8.

Vera bounced back from the loss later that year by handing Sean O’Malley his first professional loss at UFC 252 by TKO in the first round. Unfortunately, following that win, Vera suffered another unanimous decision loss, this time against former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC Fight Night 183.

Since that loss against Aldo, Vera has gone on a three fight win streak. In his first fight of 2021, Vera picked up a unanimous decision win over Davey Grant during their fight at UFC Vegas 29. Following that fight, Vera finished former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar by front-kick knockout in the third round of their meeting at UFC 268.

In his most recent outing, Vera picked up his third straight win by defeating Rob Font by unanimous decision in Vera’s first main event at UFC Vegas 53. Taking on probably his toughest opponent since he fought Aldo, Vera will be looking to pick up a huge win over Cruz on Saturday at UFC on ESPN 41.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will be entering this fight with a record of 2-1 since he lost his title in 2016. All the way back in 2016, Cruz lost the bantamweight title to Cody Garbrandt after losing by unanimous decision. Following that loss to Garbrandt, Cruz attempted to get back into the octagon multiple time within the subsequent couple years, but injuries were keeping him out of competition.

Cruz finally returned to the octagon after more than three years away because of injuries. In his return fight, he faced Henry Cejudo for the bantamweight championship at UFC 249. Cruz ended up losing the fight after Cejudo finished him in the second round by TKO. Since then, Cruz has won back-to-back fights to stay relevant at the top of the bantamweight division.

Just under a year after the loss to Cejudo, Cruz snapped his two fight losing streak with a split decision win over Casey Kenney during their matchup at UFC 259. Cruz picked up his second straight win in his most recent fight at UFC 269 when he defeated Pedro Munhoz by unanimous decision. While Vera attempts to get to his first title shot, Cruz is looking to get back to the throne he once sat on and he will need to get through Vera to do so.

UFC on ESPN 41 Results – Co-Main Event

In the co-main event will be a featherweight matchup between Nate Landwehr and David Onama. Landwehr is coming into the fight with a 2-2 record since the start of 2020, alternating wins and losses as he goes. He made his debut in 2020 after compiling a seven fight win streak outside of the UFC. In his debut, he faced Herbert Burns at UFC Fight Night 166 and ended up being finished in the first round by knockout.

Landwehr picked up his first win in the UFC in his sophomore outing after he defeated Darren Elkins by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 8. After that, he would go on to lose his next fight, getting finished with a knee once again in a first round TKO loss to Julian Erosa at UFC Fight Night 185. In Landwehr’s most recent fight, he picked up his first finish in the UFC when he submitted L’udovit Klein at UFC Vegas 40.

Onama will be entering the fight with a 2-1 record in his UFC career as he has won his last two in a row. After starting his career 8-0, Onama made his UFC debut at UFC Vegas 41 where he would lose by unanimous decision to Mason Jones. Since then, Onama has won back-to-back fights starting with a first round knockout win over Gabriel Benitez at UFC Vegas 48. In his most recent fight, Onama picked up his second straight win with a submission win over Garrett Armfield at UFC Vegas 58.

UFC on ESPN 41 Results – Main Card

Kicking things off on UFC on ESPN 41’s main card will be a fight in the middleweight division as Bruno Silva takes on Gerald Meerschaert. Silva was undefeated since making his UFC debut, putting together three straight wins, however in his last fight that win streak was snapped following a unanimous decision loss to Alex Pereira at UFC Vegas 50. Meerschaert also enters the fight coming off a loss as Krzysztof Jotko snapped a three fight win streak of Meerschaert’s by handing him a unanimous decision loss at UFC Vegas 53.

Following that fight will be a women’s bantamweight bout between Priscila Cachoeira and Ariane Lipski. Cachoeira is coming into the fight following a recent unanimous decision victory over Ji Yeon Kim at UFC Vegas 49. Also coming in off a win will be Lipski as she defeated Mandy Bohm by unanimous decision in her most recent fight at UFC Vegas 37.

The third fight on the main card will be a fight between two light heavyweights as Devin Clark takes on Azamat Murzakanov. Clark is looking for his second win of the year as he started off 2022 with a third round TKO win over William Knight at UFC Vegas 51. Murzakanov enters the fight with an undefeated record of 11-0 coming off a successful UFC debut in which he finished Tafon Nchukwi by knockout in the third round of their UFC Vegas 50 matchup.

Finally, before the co-main event, two strawweights will face off as Yazmin Jauregui takes on Iasmin Lucindo. Both women will be making their UFC debuts as Jauregui enters the UFC with an undefeated record of 8-0. Lucindo’s record coming into the fight sits at 13-4 but she has also won her last seven in a row coming into her fight with Jauregui.
