Dustin Poirier Looking to Give 300,000 Meals Ahead of UFC 269

Ahead of his UFC title bout at UFC 269 Dustin Poirier, with his Good Fight Foundation, will be giving 300,000 meals to families in need. At UFC 269 on December 11 we will have Charles Oliveira vs. Dustin Poirier. The reigning UFC lightweight champion, of Brazil, “Do Bronx” Charles Oliveira will face off against the top-ranked Dustin Poirier. And as we near this fight Poirier is making sure the neediest of Louisana are taken care of.

Second Harvest Food Bank with Poirier

His goal is that 300,000 meals will be given to families of South Louisiana, the home state of Poirier. Dustin Poirier with his wife Jolie Poirier own and operate The Good Fight Foundation. The foundation has teamed up with Second Harvest Food Bank in this project.

“Our goal is to provide 300,000 meals to families in need,” Poirier said. “Second Harvest not only helps out my hometown of Lafayette, but they serve communities across 23 parishes with access to food and disaster relief following the immediate aftermath of storms as well as long-term recovery year-round.

To help reach these goals, Poirier will be auctioning off his UFC 269 fight kit. His gloves, shirt, and shorts, from his lightweight title bout, will be available for auction after the fight. The Good Fight Foundation with Second Harvest Food Bank is also seeking donations from the public; a $25 donation will provide 100 meals, $50 provides 200 meals, $100 provides 400 meals and $250 generates 1,000 meals, according to their website.

“With rising food prices,” Poirier said, “a monetary gift is the most efficient way to help Second Harvest ensure families across South Louisiana have a meal for the holiday. $1 can help Second Harvest provide four meals to the moms, dads, and children in need.”

“Second Harvest is so grateful to join forces with Dustin & Jolie Poirier and their Good Fight Foundation to raise funds to feed families in Acadiana and across South Louisiana!” Second Harvest Food Bank says, “As a Lafayette native, Dustin and his family are excited to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide meals and hope to neighbors in need. Every $1 donated helps Second Harvest provide 4 meals. Your gift is needed more than ever as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, hurricanes, and the everyday disaster of hunger in South Louisiana.”

The Good Fight Foundation

“Dustin is a great athlete, but more importantly he’s a great human being,” said Dana White, UFC President, “He is a kid who works hard and is passionate about giving back to not only his community, but to those who are less fortunate.”

“Many people who follow the sport are very familiar with The Good Fight Foundation but maybe are not familiar with what they do exactly.” MMA Sucka wrote earlier this year on Poirier and The Good Fight Foundation, “They initially helped provide 3,000 meals in Lafayette to those who needed it, helped raise money for building a playground with access for disabled children. The foundation has also helped support community children’s hospitals, helping homeless people, school supply drives, food bank drives, building water wells in Uganda, and more…Many fighters like Max Holloway and Khabib Nurmagomedov generously donated their fight kits to be auctioned off for the foundation after their respective fights against Poirier.”

UFC 269

Dustin Poirier has had an electric 2021. This year he defeated a former adversary, the Irish-born Conor McGregor, twice. Both of these bouts were sold-out blockbuster events that pulled huge viewers for the UFC. Poirier’s first loss to McGregor in 2014, and then defeated him this year twice, both via TKO.

Poirier is a former interim champion and is ranked number one in this division. He had a previous title shot against then-champion Khabib Nurmagomedov; In this only title shot, Poirier lost to Nurmagomedov via submission at UFC 242, two years ago. Now, Poirier is on a winning streak in this weight class and along the way has defeated Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje, Dan Hooker, and others in his career. At UFC 269 on December 11 Poirier will have another shot at UFC gold.

“I am a fighter. It’s what I do. Now I want to fight the good fight for those who can’t.” said Dustin Poirier, “I have created a platform for fellow athletes and fans to join together, fight for underserved communities and answer the call of those in need.”
