Alex Pereira Confirms He's Staying at Heavyweight, Targets Return in November

The former two-division champion plans to remain at heavyweight and hopes to return to the Octagon before the end of the year.
After conquering the UFC middleweight and light heavyweight titles, Alex Pereira took on a new challenge in his career by moving up a division once again. Last month, the Brazilian made his heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane and suffered just his third loss since joining the UFC.
The result sparked speculation about whether "Poatan" would remain at heavyweight. However, the former two-division champion has now confirmed he intends to stay in the division.
Alex Pereira Will Keep Fighting at Heavyweight
Throughout his title reigns, Pereira established himself as one of the UFC's most active champions. Now, the Brazilian has made it clear he wants to keep fighting as long as he is physically and mentally able to compete. Speaking to Ag Fight, Pereira not only confirmed he will continue fighting at heavyweight but also revealed he hopes to return to the Octagon in November.
"I think November. November is a good time . (...) Yes, I'm staying at heavyweight. I want to keep fighting as long as I'm up to it. If I'm physically and mentally ready, I definitely want to keep fighting. I'll get some rest and come back stronger soon."
Alex Pereira: A Meteoric Rise through Two Divisions
Pereira has enjoyed one of the most meteoric rises in UFC history. After transitioning from kickboxing, where he also became a two-division Glory champion, Poatan signed with the promotion in 2021 and captured both the middleweight and light heavyweight titles in less than five years. At 39 years old, the Brazilian is already regarded as one of the most dangerous strikers to ever step inside the Octagon.
Now, Pereira hopes to begin a new chapter at heavyweight after already making history in two different UFC divisions.
