Cris Cyborg hints at comeback at Scott Coker's Ki MMA organization's launch

Cris Cyborg has suggested that she hasn't wholly shut the door on a potential return to professional MMA competition. 

The 41-year-old athlete's aforementioned suggestion comes at a time when she's considered to be semi-retired from combat sports competition.

Cris Cyborg has won world championships across multiple prominent mixed martial arts organizations over the course of her long and storied career. Having competed in the sport since 2005, Cyborg has notched featherweight world titles in Strikeforce, Invicta FC, Bellator MMA, UFC, and the PFL. She also bagged the PFL Super Fights women's featherweight belt. 

Beheld as one of the most well-rounded fighters and powerful knockout artists in MMA history, Cyborg was one of the revered mixed martial artists invited to the launch of Scott Coker's Ki MMA organization in New York on Monday, September 14. 

Other notable fighters at the event included MMA great Frank Shamrock, heavyweight legend and Pride FC icon Fedor Emelianenko, and former UFC superstar Nate Diaz, to name a few. 

Cris Cyborg teases MMA return; boxing and MMA fights with archrivals loom on the horizon

Cris Cyborg has displayed her talent in multiple combat sports, including submission grappling, kickboxing, boxing, and MMA. Her latest professional boxing appearance came in March, wherein she stopped Paulina Cardona within a couple of rounds to capture the vacant WIBA light middleweight belt. 

The Brazilian-American fighter's most recent pro combat sports contest overall happens to be an MMA bout. She defended her PFL women's featherweight title by beating Ketlen Vieira via unanimous decision at PFL Tampa on August 22. Vieira missed weight for the matchup and was ineligible to win the title, but Cyborg did make weight, so the victory counted as a successful title defense. 

It marked the final fight of Cyborg's PFL contract, and many fans and experts deemed it her farewell MMA fight. She had signaled that it could the last time she dons the MMA gloves. 

Nevertheless, during her appearance at the Ki MMA launch on Monday, Cyborg teased that her comeback to the sport can't be ruled out. 

Speaking to Home of Fight's Jake Noecker, Cyborg said, "I still have fire in my heart. It didn't stop. This is my last fight in my contract with PFL." She also noted, "Let's see. Everything can be possible." 

She also, elsewhere, heaped praise on Coker, whom she's previously worked with in Strikeforce, hailing the veteran combat sports promoter for helping fighters get the best opportunities possible in the industry. 

Upon being asked whether she's kept the door open for possibly competing in Ki MMA, Cyborg stated, "I don't know. Everything can happen." 

One ought to note that while Cyborg has yet to confirm which MMA organization she'll compete in next, and whether she'd return to boxing, she's already received multiple callouts.

Right from BKFC bare-knuckle boxing legend Christine Ferea to gloved boxing great Claressa Shields, some of the fight game's fiercest combatants have challenged Cyborg to face them in their sport. Furthermore, Taekwondo great-turned-boxer Jade Jones also challenged her, albeit Cyborg's yet to announce whom she'll fight next, if at all.
