Cris Cyborg Throws Retirement Plans Into Question With Ronda Rousey Fight Tease

Many believe it could be a retirement fight for the 41-year-old, who has built a career record of 29 victories and just two losses. However, according to Cyborg, she might not be ready to call it a career just yet.

With Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano’s comeback fights ending in spectacular fashion, Cris Cyborg might just want to get in on the action as well.

Cris Cyborg Opens Up on the Ronda Rousey Showdown

As MVP looks to expand into MMA, particularly with women-headlined events, Cris Cyborg was asked by ‘The Crowned’ whether she could envision a clash with Ronda Rousey, and her cheeky response was a resounding yes. 

"I'm ready anytime," Cyborg said about the super-fight. “I don't know if the other side is gonna accept it. She ran from me for so many years, and always had an excuse for it not to happen.” 

She further added, “I don't think she wants this moment now. I don't think she's ready for that. But — I'm here. Everything can happen. If you want to make this fight happen, it's gonna be an exciting one for me.”

A Ronda Rousey-Cris Cyborg fight has been in the making for ages. The two were supposed to clash back when they were with Strikeforce in 2012, but the fight fell through due to weight and contract issues. 

They were then expected to meet in the UFC after Dana White floated the idea that Rousey would fight Cyborg if she defeated Holly Holm. However, Rousey ultimately lost, and the fight vanished once again.

Fans have been waiting ages for this superfight, but they have received nothing but disappointment. Now, with Cris Cyborg seemingly floating the idea of the fight, thanks to MVP, things could finally be changing.

Well, while she has certainly floated the idea of a comeback, that doesn’t mean she isn’t considering retirement.

Cyborg reveals where she stands on retirement

Cris Cyborg has given 21 years to the sport and earned the title of a legend. Now, as her career reaches its twilight, she is not shying away from the possibility of retirement, admitting that this could really be the end of her MMA journey.

"Maybe it could be my last," Cyborg told Uncrowned from her home office, surrounded by the championship belts she earned across Strikeforce, Invicta, the UFC, Bellator MMA, and PFL.

She further added, "At 41 years old, I always think, 'This could be my last.' I'm already prepared change this. I feel very good. I've never had a bad injury, and I feel better than when I was 21 years old. So it could be my last fight, this next fight against Ketlen Vieira.”  

With a 29-2 career record, Cris Cyborg stands among the most accomplished women’s MMA fighters ever. She also owns the rare Grand Slam of women’s MMA, having captured titles in five major promotions: Strikeforce, UFC, Invicta FC, Bellator, and PFL.

No one would bat an eye if she called it a career, but alas, a warrior always craves more battles.
