Darren Till Cautious of 49-Year-Old Yoel Romero’s Threat Ahead of BKFC Clash
Darren Till is not underestimating the danger Yoel Romero still presents despite his age as both edge closer to their BKFC clash.
Yoel Romero's age means little to Darren Till. The former UFC title challenger expects the Cuban to remain every bit as dangerous when he steps into the boxing ring this Saturday.
Darren Till Keeps His Guard Up Before Romero Clash
Darren Till vs. Yoel Romero will headline BKFC 94 on Saturday in Manchester. Despite being the younger fighter, Till is treating this challenge as anything but easy.
The current MFB Bridgerweight Champion knows the fight can go south in the blink of an eye, given the MMA veteran's incredible knockout power. With 11 KOs in the UFC alone, Romero has quite the pedigree to back that claim. And Till believes age has taken little away from him.
Speaking with DAZN Boxing, the UFC veteran shared his assessment of Romero:
"I don't care about Joel's age. I know what Joel is. I know what he's capable of. I know what he can take. I know the damage he can take. I've watched his fights long before he knew who I was. So I'm not going into this thinking, oh, he's 49.
"He's still a very dangerous guy. And I take this fight with a lot of caution and a lot of respect to my opponent, knowing what dangers he brings to the ring."
This assessment is consistent with 'The Gorilla's past comments about the striking powerhouse. Till had previously joked about steering clear of the terrifying Cuban contender, citing Romero's immense strength and imposing frame, in 2019.
One has to admit the fight's appeal for the UFC star, who accepted the showdown in a heartbeat. While Romero's danger remains, Till is confident in his abilities, too.
Darren Till Opens Up on Intense Face-Off
The face-off between the two MMA veterans had combat fans holding their breath. The Cuban veteran maintained an imposing presence while Till held his own, and while this was perhaps the first time the 33-year-old came face-to-face with the striking beast, Till wasn't intimidated by what he saw.
"He's a scary dude. And for me, that was just a chance to stand in front of him and just let him know that I'm here to fight," he added in the same interview.
Moreover, Till has also clapped back at the Bellator phenom's comments about his age.
"He was talking a lot about being this young kid and stuff like that, but I'm not a kid. I'm a veteran in the fight game. I know how to fight. I come to fight. I'm not scared of anyone, which I know I said I was with him."
Still, "The Gorill"a has kept a practical, grounded approach to his upcoming showdown. The added layer of no gloves or handwraps between the fighters definitely presents its own challenge. Although only time can tell how the fight unfolds, Romero is appearing to be an early favorite.
