Islam Makhachev notes why Usman Nurmagomedov Shouldn't Get Immediate UFC Title Shot

While Islam Makhachev will be gearing up for a title fight, another Dagestani fighter is slowly rising up the ranks. Showing some incredible talent in the PFL, Usman Nurmagomedov has emerged as a strong contender for getting a potential UFC contract. However, as Nurmagomedov is still undecided on his future, Makhachev has some friendly advice for him. 

Islam Makhachev Wants Usman Nurmagomedov to get UFC Feel

Usman Nurmagomedov has remained unscathed in the PFL so far. In his recent bout, the latest star from Team Abdulmanap defeated Archie Colgan in a dominant fashion. The win handed him a 22-0 MMA record at PFL New York. Now, having cleared out most of his competition, there is significant buzz about the 28-year-old joining the UFC. 

Speaking on the matter, the defending UFC Welterweight Champion pointed out that a title fight straight away might not be right. He said, "He has to feel this atmosphere.”

Makhachev further added, "He has to fight one time... because this is like one of the big divisions in UFC, you know, and come from another division and fight for the title, I think... he has to come, feel this atmosphere, feel this all, media, everything, and fight for the title next."

Meanwhile, commenting on Usman’s future, the 28-1 fighter urged him to join Dana White’s promotion. 

Islam Makhachev Feels PFL has no Competition for Nurmagomedov Despite Money 

Ahead of his fight with Colgan, many critics touted the fight as one of the hardest for the Dagestani. However, when both the undefeated fighters locked horns, the scenario played out quite differently. Usman knocked out his opponent in the very first round, establishing himself as one of the best. 

Reflecting on which path he chooses next, the UFC two-division champion pointed out that PFL might not have any more quality fights to offer. Makhachev told MMA Junkie, “PFL is ready to pay him good money, but I don't know the UFC and how much they want to pay him, you know? But I feel in PFL he doesn't have any new names-but in my opinion, it's a good time for him to jump to the UFC.”
