Jamahal Hill Reveals Major Reason why he Wants to Transition to Heavyweight

Jamahal Hill is desperately trying to salvage his UFC career. Back in 2023, Hill looked to be in his prime. Toppling Glover Teixeira to win the light heavyweight title, the 35-year-old looked ready for more challenges. That didn't happen as Hill failed to defend his title as he got knocked out against Alex Pereira at UFC 300. 

Following the loss, Hill has lost a couple of more bouts and is currently on a 3-fight losing streak. However, in a recent statement, the 12-4 fighter has dropped strong reasons for his potential heavyweight debut. 

Jamahal Hill Eager for Heavyweight Debut

Hill pointed out that transitioning into a new division is something that he has been considering for a long time now. According to the former light heavyweight champion, the weight cut has been strenuous for him. Thus, to give his body a bit more flexibility, the 35-year-old now wants to lock horns with the big guns of the UFC. And he sounds quite focused. 

‘Sweet Dreams’ said, “You know, I'm here to bring energy and bring good fights. I believe my style is very exciting, and it translates very well to the big boys. I'm going to get them moving. I'm going to get them moving. I'm coming with that action."

Hill also justified his decision by explaining that he is not someone who has a small stature. Thus, the 35-year-old claims he will feel a whole lot better and at ease at heavyweight. Interestingly, Hill also has an opponent in mind.

Jamahal Hill Sends Warning to Josh Hokit

Jamahal Hill just lost against Khalil Rountree Jr. in UFC Baku. But the loss seems to have done very little to thwart his energy. Trying to transition into the heavyweight division, the former UFC champion called out Hokit. He pointed out that getting into the octagon with Hokit was something he was looking forward to. 

“It's not going to be a whole lot of sitting back, looking at each other. I'm here to put my hands on people, so that's what I'm coming for the heavyweight division. I think the heavyweight division needs that, and I want Josh Hokit. I want Josh Hokit first fight. You know, that's definitely a fight I want more than any other fight. That's the fight that I want,” Hill said. 

There's no confirmation about whether Dana White will make the fight. Currently, Hokit is in blazing form. Having played five times in the UFC, the heavyweight fighter is still undefeated. His recent victories against Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis have brought the 6-foot-1 star into the limelight. Now, it remains to be seen what’s next.
