Jorge Masvidal reveals which MMA legend Josh Hokit's wrestling reminds him of in the UFC

Josh Hokit has earned considerable praise from MMA legend and the UFC's inaugural BMF champion Jorge Masvidal.

"Gamebred" appeared to draw parallels between Hokit's wrestling and that of former UFC heavyweight champion and retired MMA star Cain Velasquez.

Josh Hokit is widely considered to be one of the most gifted athletes in the sport of mixed martial arts today. The amateur wrestling savant, who also tried his hand at the sport of American Football, eventually made his professional MMA debut in 2023. 

He initially fought under the Bellator MMA banner and later competed in the UFC-associated DWCS (Dana White's Contender Series). After making a mark in the DWCS last August, his UFC main roster debut soon followed in November. 

The American has accrued an undefeated pro MMA record of 10-0 thus far, going 4-0 in his main roster UFC run. Hokit is coming off a TKO win over Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250 in June. Moreover, Hokit's penchant for stoking controversy with his socio-political assertions -- many of which have been deemed discriminatory by fans and experts -- has made him a polarizing figure in the fight business. 

Jorge Masvidal compares Josh Hokit to MMA and UFC legend Cain Velasquez

During his latest conversation with former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo on Full Send MMA, former BMF titleholder Jorge Masvidal expressed his appreciation for Josh Hokit's fighting prowess. He harked back to Hokit's unanimous decision victory over the veteran Curtis Blaydes earlier this year, marking it as the fight that changed his perception of him. 

Masvidal stated, "I just didn't think he was that type of fighter. And then in the (Curtis) Blaydes fight he showed, bro, this guy's a f**king fighter." 

Picking Hokit to trouble Gane in their upcoming UFC heavyweight championship matchup, Masvidal said, "I think with his wrestling abilities, his agility -- those first two rounds, he's gonna make it complicated for (Ciryl) Gane. And Gane could break with the wrestling, you know." 

Making a comparison between Hokit and one of the consensus best wrestlers in UFC heavyweight history, Cain Velasquez, he explained, "We haven't seen somebody wrestle like (Josh) Hokit since I think -- in the heavyweight division -- like Cain (Velasquez). Somebody takes guys down, immediately punching them, punching them, riding them good, explosive too." 

Masvidal lauded Hokit's double-leg takedown and one-two striking combination as well, warning that he foresees that he'll "pull something off against Gane." Rooting for "The Incredible Hok" to dethrone the UFC heavyweight champion, he reaffirmed his belief in the American wrestler's skill set.

Presently, Hokit is booked to face UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane for the title in the headlining match of UFC 334 at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 14.
