Josh Hokit Details Heavyweight Aspirations despite Easily Making 205 lbs

Josh Hokit stated that despite being able to make the light heavyweight easily, he wants to become the best of the lot.
Josh Hokit could have easily gone on to fight in the UFC’s light heavyweight category. In fact, this would probably also have given him an edge over the others, but at the end of the day, the 6-foot-1 star signed up for the heavyweight division.
Having dominated most of his opponents, the 10-0 fighter is now looking to clinch the title. Before that, Hokit is making it clear why he aspires to win the heavyweight belt despite easily making 205 lbs.
Josh Hokit Wants to Stay at Heavyweight
Hokit recently spoke with Ariel Helwani. He said, “I'm like 237. I could probably make 205 easy. But why are there weight classes? People are hiding behind it. Where this game started, people just signed up to fight each other. It didn't matter what the weight class was. That's as primal as it gets… Don't get that shit twisted. The heavyweight is the baddest man on the planet. I'm trying to bring that mentality back."
Hokit also accused a lot of fighters of ‘hiding’ behind a belt or an ‘easy’ weight class. Citing Ilia Topuria’s recent statements as an example, the UFC heavyweight contender stated, “You see people like Ilia Topuria talking (expletive deleted) to me.
I'm a heavyweight and I'm about to be a heavyweight champion. What is a 145-pound champion talking to a heavyweight like that for? Different day and age. You're extinct. I wipe you off the face of the earth. But now you get to hide behind a belt and be a quote-unquote tough guy.”
Currently, Hokit has been on a roll in the UFC. Having joined the promotion last year, four out of his five wins have come from knockouts. In his last couple of fights, the UFC heavyweight star registered dominant victories against the likes of Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis. Now, as he waits for Gane, the UFC world waits in anticipation.
