Marcos "Parrumpa" backs Oliveira after Paddy Pimblett's challenge: "I'd bet on Charles"
The respected MMA coach believes Oliveira remains technically superior despite Pimblett's recent comments about finishing him in a potential matchup.
Paddy Pimblett's confidence seems to be through the roof. Shortly after defeating Benoit St. Denis at UFC 329 with an impressive submission in only 52 seconds of the opening round, the British fighter challenged none other than Charles Oliveira, claiming he would submit "Do Bronx". Despite his extreme self-confidence, not everyone agrees with his assessment.
Renowned MMA and BJJ coach Marcos "Parrumpa" da Matta disagrees with Pimblett's comments, arguing the former UFC lightweight champion remains the superior fighter if the matchup ever happens.
Marcos Parrumpa Believes Oliveira Remains Superior Fighter
Although Pimblett has established himself as one of the UFC's top lightweight contenders, having lost only one fight since joining the promotion, it may not come as a surprise why Parrumpa favors Oliveira in the potential matchup. The Brazilian is one of the most accomplished fighters in UFC history, with nearly 50 professional bouts and the record for the most submission victories in the promotion.
Speaking at his Overdogs Brasil podcast, Parrumpa defended Oliveira, saying he is not on the decline. Instead, according to the Brazilian coach, Do Bronx possesses superior jiu-jitsu and striking compared to Pimblett, making him the favorite if the matchup ever comes together.
Parrumpa is one of the most respected jiu-jitsu coaches in MMA, having worked with numerous UFC fighters over the years, including several title contenders and champions.
"In the post-fight interview, he said Charles is already on the decline and that he would submit him," Parrumpa began. "I don't agree with that at all. I don't think Charles is on the decline. In a fight like this against Paddy Pimblett, if I could, I'd bet on Charles. Charles's jiu-jitsu is better, and so is his striking."

Despite backing Oliveira and believing the Brazilian is the more technical fighter, Marcos Parrumpa admits "The Baddy" could hold the edge physically. In his view, Pimblett's youth, stamina and strength could become decisive if the fight reaches the final rounds.
"Maybe only in terms of youth, stamina and strength. If the fight goes to the final rounds, Pimblett might suddenly have an edge in stamina because he's younger."
For now, no bout between Oliveira and Pimblett has been announced. However, after Pimblett publicly called for the matchup following his recent victory, speculation surrounding a potential fight continues to grow.
