Ex-bantamweight kingpin Sean O'Malley and UFC legend Daniel Cormier have addressed the intriguing stylistic clash between O'Malley and Aiemann Zahabi at the UFC White House event.

"Sugar" Sean O'Malley has been on a quest to reclaim the UFC bantamweight championship over the past couple of years. He's now up against Aiemann Zahabi.

The younger brother of legendary MMA coach, Firas Zahabi, Aiemann is on a seven-fight win streak and is knocking on the door of title contention.

Additionally, given O'Malley's popularity and accomplishments at 135 pounds, many believe that a win over Zahabi could catapult "Sugar" into the title picture.

"Sugar" Sean O'Malley and Daniel "DC" Cormier assess his stylistic matchup against Aiemann Zahabi at UFC Freedom 250

Sean O'Malley is scheduled to take on Aiemann Zahabi in a three-round bantamweight matchup at UFC Freedom 250. The event will be held on the White House's South Lawn on Sunday, June 14.

In a recent edition of the DC Check-In with UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, the former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion hosted O'Malley. The duo alluded to the intriguing clash of styles -- O'Malley being a long-range striking savant, and Zahabi preferring a grinding style of grappling and striking.

Cormier stated, "Do you believe that because he has that style where he's very meat and potatoes, but he's very good at what he does, very dangerous." He further questioned, "Can that style match up with the style that you have, or will his style lead to him stepping into some of the traps that you're going to set?"

O'Malley responded by suggesting that Zahabi's style of mixing in adequate grappling with striking and pressurizing his opponent plays into his style. Planning to set traps and knock his foe out, he explained:

"You know, I picture this fight going that way exactly. Him stepping into these traps. And I've also been long enough in the fight (game) to know anything can happen... I love this matchup for myself."

Also, O'Malley opined that it's likely the most high-profile matchup for Zahabi in his career thus far. He implied that it's the only shot for the Canadian fighter to make a name for himself, which makes him quite a dangerous opponent.

Sean O'Malley vs. Aiemann Zahabi -- title implications in UFC White House fight

Sean O'Malley lost his UFC bantamweight championship via unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili back in 2024. The rematch witnessed Dvalishvili defend the title by submitting O'Malley.

However, Dvalishvili subsequently lost the title by unanimous decision in a rematch against Petr Yan in December of last year. Well, O'Malley had notably bested Yan via split decision in 2022.

The consensus is that the UFC could book Yan to defend his belt in a trilogy fight against Dvalishvili.

Moreover, a number of fans and experts have argued that if O'Malley defeats Aiemann Zahabi at UFC Freedom 250, he could insert himself into the title picture and possibly face the Yan-Dvalishvili trilogy winner.

On the contrary, the No. 6-ranked UFC bantamweight, Zahabi, could enter the title conversation with an impressive win over a former divisional ruler like the No. 3-ranked O'Malley.
