UFC Champion Mackenzie Dern Reveals She Got a Dog to Protect Her From 'Crazy' Fans
UFC champion Mackenzie Dern has revealed she got a dog for protection after dealing with what she describes as crazy fans ahead of her UFC 330 title defense.
Every athlete works hard to reach the top of the table because it comes with many perks, like big money, fame, and much more. However, there is a flip side to it as well. It steals their privacy and personal space. Wherever they go, there is a camera following them, and often, they get surrounded by fans when they just want some personal space. And it seems this is the same reason why UFC champion Mackenzie Dern got a dog.
Mackenzie Dern Reveals Why Her Fans Have Her Feeling Unsafe
Dern is heading into UFC 330 with Gillian Robertson’s title shot looming, and lately her feed has been all about one thing, her dog, Mack. Speaking to Complex Sports, the champ opened up about why she picked a Cane Corso specifically, and what the breed says about who she is.
“I got him just because I'm, you know, a single mom. You know, I live by myself. So he's security wise, just going on the streets. I mean, there'd be like fans that would come up and even though I love my fans, it's like, sometimes they have like, no idea of space, you're eating or something like that. So he is definitely he I got him for protection and guard work,” Dern said.
UFC fighters and their love for dogs isn’t something new. Earlier, fans saw the brave story of UFC legend Mark Coleman’s dog, Hammer, who saved him by waking him up during a severe house fire. Likewise, Dern’s history with the dog isn’t new. She’s brought Mack to the media day before, calling him her security and her calm before the storm. Ahead of Robertson, he’s playing that same role.
Mackenzie Dern Wants To Show Off Her Jiu-Jitsu At UFC 330
The champ isn’t losing sleep over Gillian Robertson’s ground game. Ahead of the fight, Dern said she wants the fight standing and is ready for the wrestling too. She believes the finish will come on the mat anyway. As per Dern, her jiu-jitsu game is at top right now, and she feels it is good enough to compete for a title in the sport itself, without MMA gloves.
“We’re going into this fight to beat her up on the feet, beat her in the wrestling and eventually get the submission. I feel like I could fight for a world title in Jiu Jitsu right now,” Dern said.
Indeed, it will be interesting to see what happens. If Robertson wins, she will hold the record for the most finishes in UFC women’s history. If Dern wins, it will be the biggest win of her career yet.
