Uros Medic renews callout of Leon Edwards after UFC Belgrade win

Uros Medic wasted little time calling for his next opponent after scoring one of the most significant wins of his career at UFC Belgrade last Saturday. Fighting in front of his home crowd at the first UFC event ever held in Serbia, "The Doctor" stopped Daniel Rodriguez in just 30 seconds to extend his winning streak to four fights. The Serbian welterweight then renewed his challenge to former champion Leon Edwards, saying the matchup would move him one step closer to a title shot.

Uros Medic Still Wants Leon Edwards

Currently sitting at No. 14 in the welterweight rankings, Medic has no doubts about who he wants to fight next, and that means facing Edwards. In fact, this was not the first time The Doctor called out the former champion. Following his victory over Geoff Neal in February, the Serbian issued the same challenge. Speaking at the UFC Belgrade post-fight press conference, Medic said a win over Edwards would move him one step closer to title contention.

"Leon Edwards if he makes himself available," Medic began. "I'm not going to bully him anymore. If he doesn't want to fight, we'll fight someone else. It's not a big deal. [...] He is ranked where I want to be ranked. Because that puts me closer to where I want to be and that is with the belt around my waist."

Uros Medic is Riding High

Medic is in outstanding form. Over the past year, The Doctor has stepped into the Octagon four times, winning all four fights by first-round finish. Combined, those victories lasted less than four minutes inside the cage. His latest performance not only extended his winning streak but also carried special significance, as it came in front of his home crowd at the first UFC event ever held in Serbia.

"Definitely a dream come true. It was crazy. [...] I'm happy that people showed up and showed so much love and support. I don't think there was a man alive that could beat me tonight."

Whether Edwards accepts the challenge remains to be seen, but Medic left Belgrade with one of the most significant victories of his career and made it clear who he wants standing across from him next. With four straight first-round finishes and a growing reputation in the welterweight division, the Serbian fighter believes he has earned the opportunity to face a top-ranked opponent.
