UFC Macau's Awesome Main Card at Breakfast Saturday Morning!

UFC Macau turns the page on the MMA calendar for the month of May this Saturday morning. We look at this weekend's main card:
UFC Macau fight week continues. While it may be an early wake-up call for some fans of competitive violence inside the United States of America, the last event in the month of May will be held this Saturday morning. Galaxy Arena in Macau, China serves as the setting for this week's edition of UFC Fight Night.
Live coverage of UFC Macau begins early Saturday morning at 4 am ET/ 1 am PT with the prelims. Stateside, the entirety of the card can be streamed via Paramount Plus.
Main card action caps the morning's activities at 7 am ET/ 4 am PT, allowing the early risers to put on a pot of coffee and watch the fights. If there are no late alterations to this weekend's itinerary, the final version of UFC Macau will feature 13 fights.
UFC Macau Main Event: No. 5 Contender Song Yadong vs. No. 7 Contender Deiveson Figueiredo: Song Looking to Take Next Step to Bantamweight Gold
At the top of the bill for UFC Macau on Saturday, the bantamweights walk to the fabled Octagon when No. 5 contender Song Yadong (22-9-1, 1 NC MMA, 11-4-1 UFC) meets No. 7 contender Deiveson Figueiredo (25-6-1 MMA, 14-6-1 UFC.) This is a five-round fight at five minutes per round to close the show.
Song Yadong comes into the UFC Macau main event this weekend having posted a mark of 3-2 in his last five fights. Both Song and Figueiredo competed on UFC 324 on Jan. 24 in Enterprise, NV.
That night, Song dropped a unanimous decision to Sean O'Malley (19-3, 1 NC MMA, 11-3, 1 NC UFC) after three rounds of action. O'Malley will return on June 14 during UFC Freedom 250 on The White House grounds in Washington, DC.
With Song sitting at No. 5 in the rankings at 135 in the run-up to UFC Macau on Saturday night, he's firmly in the conversation for the UFC Bantamweight Championship. His opponent wants nothing more than to increase his own odds at getting the belt wrapped around his waist.
UFC Macau's Deiveson Figueiredo Making Push to Reclaim Championship Glory
Across the way, Deiveson Figueiredo will be making the walk to the cage in the UFC Macau main event this Saturday on the strength of a 2-3 record over his five latest appearances. During UFC 324 in late January, he dropped a unanimous decision at the hands of Umar Nurmagomedov (20-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC.)
The day before, at the official weigh-ins, Figueiredo would miss weight by 2 1/2 lbs for the fight. "Deus da Guerra" has already owned the UFC Flyweight Championship in the past. In a recent interview with USA Today's MMA Junkie, he revealed his intentions to make a run at bantamweight.
"I just need to do everything correctly," Figueiredo said. "I'm a guy who used to step over the line and outside the line, and I just need to stay within the lines and do everything correctly, and, like I said, make my way back to the title."
UFC Macau Co-Main Event: Zhang Mingyang vs. No. 15 Contender Alonzo Menifield: Sizing Up Zhang
Immediately prior to the headlining fight, the co-main attraction of UFC Macau happens in the light heavyweight ranks. Zhang Mingyang (19-7 MMA, 3-1 UFC) seeks to return to the win column against No. 15 contender Alonzo Menifield (17-6-1 MMA, 10-6-1 UFC.) This is a three-round fight at five minutes each.
Zhang Mingyang will be making the walk this week having posted a record of 4-1 in his last five trips to the cage. On Aug. 23, he was on the receiving end of a second-round knockout (punches) from Johnny Walker (22-10, 1 NC MMA, 8-7, 1 NC UFC) in Shanghai.
Saturday's co-main event serves as Zhang's first fight in over nine months and is the first fight in his UFC tenure where he'll be coming in off of a loss. How does he respond to his defeat late last summer?
Alonzo Menifield Looking to Rebound from Knockout Loss Last November
Meanwhile, Alonzo Menifield enters UFC Macau this weekend with a mark of 2-3 over the course of his past five fights. He's hoping for a better outcome than his fight last November in Qatar.
That night, he absorbed a barrage of strikes and was defeated by Volkan Oezdemir (21-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC) in a minute and 27 seconds' time. Menifield comes into Saturday night at the bottom of the rankings at 205.
Can he turn in a highlight-reel performance to move up in the top-15? Tune in and find out.
UFC Macau: No. 3 Contender Sergei Pavlovich vs. No. 6 Contender Tallison Teixeira: Pavlovich Nearing Title Shot
Also on the UFC Macau main card, the heavyweights come calling for a battle between No. 3 contender Sergei Pavlovich (20-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and No. 6 contender Tallison Teixeira (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC.) Pavlovich touches down in China for this bout with a record of 3-2 in his five most recent showcases.
Ahead of UFC Macau Saturday, he's won two fights in a row, with each win in this streak coming via decision. Last August, he bested Waldo Cortes-Acosta (17-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) by way of unanimous decision. Pavlovich is right on the doorstep of an opportunity at the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
There's a chance, however, that not just any win will do for Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Macau. Numerically speaking, 75 percent of his wins have been recorded by way of knockout. If Pavlovich delivers fireworks on the main card, his next contest might be for the championship.
Tallison Teixeira Aiming for 10th Pro Win in UFC Macau
In the other corner, Tallison Teixeira will enter the cage this weekend sporting a 4-1 record in his last five bouts dating back to his days in the LFA. He'll be attempting to build off of a unanimous decision win in his most recent fight on Jan. 31 against Tai Tuivasa (14-10 MMA, 8-10 UFC.)
A win here would net Teixeira an important career milestone. Should he get his hand raised in victory, it would mark 10 triumphs in the sport as a professional fighter.
Given that he's ranked No. 6 at heavyweight, if he scores his 10th win on Saturday, Teixeira's chances at an eventual title shot would be helped tremendously.
Rest of the Card
UFC Macau's main card is rounded out by these tilts:
- A bantamweight fixture matching Kai Asakura (21-6 MMA, 0-2 UFC) against Cameron Smotherman (12-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC,)
- a welterweight contest between Jake Matthews (22-8 MMA, 15-8 UFC) and Carlston Harris (19-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC,)
- and a flyweight fight pairing No. 11 contender Alex Perez (26-10 MMA, 8-6 UFC) with Sumudaerji (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC.)
