Alex Pereira recently took to Instagram and shared a heartfelt message for his sister, Aline Pereira, after Aline's fight with Sundell on Tuesday.
Aline lost to Sundell by unanimous decision on Dana White's Contender Series.
Alex Pereira Sends Message to Aline
Alex Pereira shared a picture of his sister on Instagram, praising her for taking on an experienced opponent despite having little experience in MMA. His caption read:
“Today am just proud of you my sister. You faced one of the best in the world, an experienced opponent, and even with a short time in MMA, you showed a lot of evolution, grit, and courage,”. "Poatan" also addressed the result, making it known that the loss does not take away what his sister showed inside the cage.
“The result didn’t come, and many people had a different view of the decision, but that doesn’t change the size of what you put in there.” Pereira, a former two-division champion finished his message by reminding Aline that the 36-year-old still has more to show as a fighter.
“A fight doesn’t define an athlete. You have proven that you belong to this level, and you still have a lot to come. I’m extremely proud of you as an athlete and especially as a brother. I love you. Chama!” he added.
How Aline Pereira's Fight Against Smilla Sundell Unfolded
Aline landed a few left hooks and effective counters on the feet while she was looking to find her range and create openings vs. Sundell. However, Sundell continued to press forward, making Aline work to keep up with her pace.
Neither fighter was able to completely take control of the three-round bout. Aline continued to look for opportunities to turn the fight in her favor as the bout progressed. A takedown in the final round allowed Aline to change the momentum, but Sundell was able to get back to her feet and continue brawling.
After 15 minutes, all three judges scored the bout 29-28 for Sundell, leaving Aline short of a UFC contract.
Alex's message showed that he believes his sister has more to offer as she continues her MMA career. 'Poatan' also praised her for taking on a more experienced opponent.
