Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor underwent a knee surgery necessitated by the mid-fight injury he sustained at UFC 329.

The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion recently underwent knee surgery, so as to aid his recovery from the injury he sustained in his most recent fight that transpired last month.
"The Notorious" has now taken to social media to provide fight fans with an update regarding his surgery and health status.
Conor McGregor has made comebacks from multiple injury setbacks in his MMA career
Conor McGregor is no stranger to dealing with injuries and other challenges that an athlete faces in the treacherous terrain that is professional combat sports competition. "Mystic Mac" has made multiple successful comebacks from injury-induced hiatuses over the course of his mixed martial arts career.
Nevertheless, the Irishman suffered what many deemed to be one of the most gruesome injuries, a broken left leg, in his lightweight matchup against Dustin Poirier that headlined UFC 264 back in July of 2021.
The veteran combatant embarked on a long and tumultuous journey to recovery thereafter, and he was booked to make his return to professional MMA competition in a welterweight clash against Michael Chandler.
They were to headline UFC 303 in June of 2024. However, a toe injury in training forced McGregor out of the long-awaited matchup against Chandler.
It's noteworthy that McGregor was, both before and after the Chandler clash cancellation, quite busy with his entrepreneurial endeavors.
That included his work on multiple brands he's founded, his ambassadory role and co-owner obligations at the BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) bare-knuckle boxing promotion, and his socio-political ventures to serve Ireland. His miscellaneous work commitments are said to have played a role in keeping him away from competing.
UFC legend Conor McGregor provides fight fans with a post-surgery update
After a five-year break, Conor McGregor finally returned against Max Holloway in a welterweight clash that headlined UFC 329 a few weeks ago, on July 11, to be specific.
The highly anticipated return ended in an unfortunate fashion, as he landed awkwardly after the first strike he threw in the fight, which injured his right knee.
The injury resulted in Referee Mike Beltran waving the fight off at the 69-second mark and Holloway emerging as the victor via TKO.
McGregor had defeated Holloway by way of unanimous decision in their first encounter, which was a featherweight matchup at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen in August of 2013.
Moreover, McGregor subsequently indicated that he'd suffered a mid-fight left knee injury (left ACL and meniscus) in his first fight against Holloway, proceeding to confirm that a similar knee injury -- albeit to his right leg (right ACL and meniscus) -- afflicted him in the rematch at UFC 329.
Well, the fearsome knockout artist recently took to social media to announce that he'll be undergoing his fifth knee surgery. He's now put forth an Instagram Stories post, wherein he appeared to suggest that his surgery went well.
The MMA great alluded to his confidence in a statement in the post. It read, "Surgery went excellent! I am confident."
Needless to say, many MMA fans sent their good wishes to the Dubliner after the surgery for the injury he suffered at UFC 329. The vast majority of his supporters were also set abuzz in regard to when McGregor could potentially return to compete.
On his part, McGregor had, a few days back, made an allusion that the final fight of his current UFC deal -- which would also be his next fight -- would likely transpire during the UFC's International Fight Week next July.
