Darren Till doubts he can retire Yoel Romero at BKFC 94
The former UFC title challenger believes Yoel Romero could keep fighting well into his 60s.
Darren Till is not sure he can convince Yoel Romero to retire. The former UFC title challenger will face the Cuban in the main event of BKFC 94 on Saturday in Manchester, confident that he can hurt his opponent. However, Till doubts even a dominant performance would be enough to make the 49-year-old veteran walk away from combat sports.
Romero has continued competing across different combat sports after his last PFL appearance in 2024. The Cuban is now preparing for his second BKFC appearance, while Till will look to build on his successful promotional debut in May.
Darren Till Doubts He Can Retire Yoel Romero
Romero is widely known for his physical prowess and longevity in the sport. Even though he has no doubt he can cause damage to the former UFC title challenger, Till believes the Cuban's desire to compete could keep him fighting for many more years.
Speaking to Bloody Elbow ahead of BKFC 94, Till joked that it would take an extraordinary amount of punishment to convince Romero to retire.
"Retire is a big one, I don't think Darren Till could make him retire, I'm confident I could but to make Yoel retire you're gonna have to hit him with a tank I think," Till said. "I do think I can put a beating on him but retire that man? He'll probably be fighting at 69 years old, who knows with that guy, he's from another planet, I think he is a human experiment at this point."
Darren Till Wants an Entertaining Fight
Although Till expects Romero to remain dangerous, he does not want his opponent to make the fight overly cautious. Till hopes Romero will engage rather than spend five rounds moving backward and limiting the action.
"Yeah, I obviously just don't want him to make a boring fight, if he just moves back and tightens up and stuff like that, and there's not any openings I can find, I don't want it to be five rounds where we just get off a few punches each because I know that'll be lackluster and that ultimately disappoints me and the fans and David (Feldman), so I hope we do bring it and it's a good fight," Till said.
Till and Romero will meet in the BKFC 94 main event on Sept. 26 at the AO Arena in Manchester.
