Former Title Challenger Suggests Conor McGregor’s Move to Boxing

Dan Hardy has suggested that Conor McGregor move to boxing after suffering several injuries whilst competing in MMA.
Former welterweight title challenger, Dan Hardy, has suggested that Conor McGregor would be better served fighting in boxing, rather than MMA. Following back to back fights ending with leg injuries for the former double champion, many are questioning whether his body will hold up.
Dan Hardy Suggests a Boxing Move for Conor McGregor
UFC329 Fallout
‘The Outlaw’ has been speaking to Submission Radio and was extremely respectful in his analysis of McGregor’s injuries following UFC 329.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be aware that ‘The Notorious’ injured his knee with the first strike he attempted on Saturday night after a five year layoff from the sport. The Irishman attempted a flying switch kick, landed awkwardly on his right leg and that was all she wrote. Although he attempted to fight on, it was clear that he was compromised and his opponent at UFC 329, Max Holloway, indicated to the referee that McGregor wasn’t fit to continue.

Since this outing, rumours have circulated about a pre-existing injury and one that McGregor was aware of heading into the fight. Wild claims and dangerous ones if true. A lot of money went down on McGregor to complete an epic comeback and if he was injured heading into the bout, it brings the integrity of the sport into disrepute.
Many are questioning whether the sports biggest ever star still has what it takes to compete at the highest level, whether he’ll ever return to action and if he does, whether he will be the draw that he once was.
If McGregor is to be believed, he’ll have surgery to repair his injured knee and get right back to action to see out his contract with the UFC, of which he has a single fight remaining.
If Dan Hardy was advising McGregor, however, he would look to transition him into boxing.
Dan Hardy’s Comments
When discussing the injury McGregor suffered at UFC 329, former welterweight title challenger and PFL commentator, Dan Hardy, suggested that boxing may be the best route to go down for McGregor.

Speaking to Australian outlet, Submission radio, the Brit said:
“Conor can’t do MMA again, right? No matter what, he’s going to have injuries in his lower body that are just going to undermine his ability to perform. What he could do is put a pair of boxing boots on, a pair of gloves, and he could have a couple of boxing matches.”
There’s no denying that this is an option for the Irishman. Without having the toll of MMA training on his body, there’s a chance that McGregor doesn’t suffer with the injuries that he has in recent fights.
Without having to train to kick, wrestle, grapple, avoid takedowns, work up against the cage and all other aspects that come with training for an MMA bout, McGregor could potentially transition into boxing full time. That isn’t to say boxing is by any means easy on the body, but it is far less taxing that MMA.
As we know, McGregor famous fought Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match in 2017 in a losing effort to the undefeated multi-weight world champion. He has never fully closed the door on the squared circle and with Dana White and Zuffa boxing becoming a major player in the sport, lacing up the big gloves one more time could be the play for Conor McGregor.
