Jean Silva overcomes early trouble to submit Jose Delgado in UFC Noche headliner
Jean Silva overcame a difficult start to submit Jose Delgado in the UFC Noche main event and close out the card with an impressive finish.
The featherweight bout between Jean Silva and Jose Delgado headlined the UFC Noche event. It went down at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, on September 12.
The UFC Noche main card featured all fights ending in decisions, except for the event headliner. All credit goes to Silva, who delivered an impressive performance to end the event on a high note.
Jean Silva caps off UFC Noche with submission win over Jose Delgado
Silva started slowly and didn’t land a single significant strike for almost three minutes. Delgado relied on leg kicks early but didn’t throw many punches. Silva maintained a wide stance throughout the opening exchanges. The Mexican then dropped Silva with a clean right hand, but Silva immediately got back to his feet. ‘The Lord' struggled heavily in the first round.
In the second round, it was much better for Silva, while Delgado used his reach well and landed several strikes. The Brazilian shut it down by securing a takedown, but couldn’t capitalize, allowing the Mexican to work his way back to his feet. The two exchanged strikes back and forth throughout the round, with the pace increasing significantly in the final 10 seconds as ‘Lord’ began showing more urgency.
Silva came out with constant pressure, continually moving forward and pressing Delgado against the fence while throwing combinations. He landed a straight right overhand that dropped the 28-year-old. After a scramble on the ground, Silva locked in a rear-naked choke with one hand and forced the Mexican to submit.
With the submission, he secured the victory in the third round and immediately went to Hunter Campbell, gifting him his gloves.

With this win, Silva has probably cemented himself next for the featherweight title shot and might challenge the winner of Alexander Volkanovski vs. Movsar Evloev at UFC 333, where Volkanovski is defending the 145-pound strap.
Jean Silva sends a message to the next UFC featherweight champion
After his impressive win, Silva sent a message directly to whoever leaves UFC 333 with the featherweight belt, and has already claimed himself a champion.
“This message is not for anybody out there; it's for the next champion. Whoever holds that , the next champion is right here. There's a new champion in town,” Silva said via translator during his octagon interview.
