Marlon Vera’s UFC Return Confirmed for September Against Charles Jourdain

Marlon Vera will be competing again in the UFC this fall.
After a brutal skid, the last one coming earlier this year against David Martinez, Marlon "Chito" Vera has a date to begin rebuilding his UFC career.
Once considered one of the bantamweight division's toughest title contenders, the Ecuadorian has endured a difficult stretch since falling short in his championship bid against Sean O'Malley. Now, he'll look to halt that skid against one of the division's fastest-rising names.
Marlon Vera Returns Against Surging Charles Jourdain
Vera (23-12-1) is set to face Charles Jourdain (18-8-1) in a three-round bantamweight contest on September 19, with the matchup confirmed by his management team, Iridium Sports Agency.
Although the UFC has yet to officially announce the event, it is widely expected to take place during the promotion's September pay-per-view schedule. The matchup presents two fighters heading in completely different directions.
After years competing at featherweight, Jourdain made the move down to 135 lbs in late 2024, and the decision has paid immediate dividends. The Canadian has looked rejuvenated since joining the bantamweight ranks, putting together three consecutive victories over Victor Henry, Davey Grant, and Kyler Phillips.
Stakes are High for Charles Jourdain in September
Even more impressively, every one of those performances earned him a post-fight bonus. Submission wins over Henry and Grant showcased his opportunistic grappling, while his hard-fought decision over Phillips earned Fight of the Night honors and further strengthened his case as one of the division's emerging contenders.
Now 30 years old, the Canadian enters the biggest fight of his bantamweight career. Defeating a former title challenger like Vera would significantly raise his stock and could move him within touching distance of the division's ranked elite.
Fight Even More Critical for Marlon Vera
For Vera, however, the stakes are arguably even higher. The former title challenger hasn't had his hand raised since defeating Pedro Munhoz in 2023. Since then, he has suffered four consecutive defeats, beginning with his unsuccessful title challenge against Sean O'Malley at UFC 299.
That setback was followed by decision losses to former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo, Canadian contender Aiemann Zahabi, and, most recently, Martinez earlier this year.
Despite the recent downturn, the 33-year-old remains one of the most followed bantamweights of his generation. Over the years, he has built victories over former UFC champions Dominick Cruz and Frankie Edgar while also handing O'Malley the first loss of his professional career back in 2020.
Contrasting Momentum Makes This Pivotal Fight for Both Contestants
On paper, few bantamweight matchups feature sharper contrasts than Vera versus Jourdain. Vera enters the contest trying to prove that his recent skid doesn't define the fighter who spent years climbing toward a UFC title shot.
While he has struggled to recapture that form, he has consistently faced elite competition and remains one of the division's most experienced veterans. Jourdain, meanwhile, appears to have found a second wind since changing weight classes. His move to bantamweight has transformed his career trajectory.
The Canadian has quickly gone from rebuilding prospect to legitimate contender, courtesy of his newfound explosiveness and overall fight pace.
Another impressive performance against a recognizable name like Vera would likely earn him an even bigger opportunity next.
Marlon Vera in Must-Win Territory
For Vera, on the other hand, this fight represents something much more personal. Another loss would extend the longest losing streak of his UFC career and raise uncomfortable questions about his future in one of the promotion's deepest divisions.
That said, whether the event ultimately lands at the rumored Intuit Dome in Inglewood or elsewhere, Sept. 19 now carries significant implications for both athletes. One fighter is looking to continue an impressive resurgence in a new weight class, while the other is fighting to remind the MMA world why he once stood just one win away from undisputed UFC gold.
