UFC Featherweight Aljamain Sterling Gives Verdict on Volkanovski vs. Evloev

Aljamain Sterling has given his predictions on who he thinks will win when Alexander Volkanovski takes on Movsar Evloev at UFC 333
As the featherweight division prepares for a high-stakes title collision, former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is weighing in on how the fight will play out. Speaking on Ariel Helwaniâs show, the veteran contender shared his breakdown for the upcoming championship bout between featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski and undefeated grappling specialist Movsar Evloev.
Having previously shared the Octagon with Evloev, Sterling possesses firsthand experience against the Russian wrestler's suffocating ground game. Despite Evloev holding an unblemished 18-0 professional record, including eight decision victories inside the UFC, Sterling believes the champion holds the clear technical upper hand once the action begins on the feet.
"I think Volk edges this out just because the striking department on the feet," Sterling explained during the interview. "Movsar throws these little shots on the ground, but they're very little, not very damaging."
Looking Ahead to Featherweight Title Opportunities
While acknowledging Evloevâs relentless wrestling pressure, Sterling highlighted that a lack of debilitating damage could prove costly against an elite striker like Volkanovski. The Australian powerhouse, who carries an impressive 26-4 career record with 13 knockouts, has built his legacy on precise distance control, devastating calf kicks, and elite takedown defense.
For Sterling, evaluating the championship matchup isn't merely an academic exercise. Holding a 26-5 professional record with wins over former champions Petr Yan and Henry Cejudo, "Funkmaster" remains eager to assert his own place near the top of the 145-pound ladder. Sterling hinted that the timing of the bout could align nicely with his personal timeline for a future title shot.
"I really think I can finish this kid," Sterling added, keeping his sights firmly set on the division's upper echelon. "Early February 2027, Volk might want to be in a position where he's itching and want to get back."
Whether Volkanovskiâs striking dominance wins out or Evloev's relentless top control secures gold, Sterling knows the outcome will directly shape his own trajectory toward the featherweight crown.
