UFC Vegas 116 Post Event Facts: Former Champion Puts On Grappling Masterclass

UFC Vegas 116 is in the books, and with it, one of the best featherweight performances seen this year. In the main event, former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling possibly punched his ticket towards a title shot at 145-lb after dominating Youssef Zalal.

In the second-to-last match of the evening, Joselyne Edwards scored a huge upset win over women’s bantamweight top contender Norma Dumont, blasting her with repeated hard but calculated blows to score the decision victory.

UFC Vegas 116: Ryan Spann def. Marcus Buchecha  

Ryan Spann

Spann's win over Buchecha is his second win in a row, bringing his overall heavyweight record to 2-1 since debuting in the division last year. The victory also garnered him a Performance of the Night bonus, making it his fourth in the UFC  

He is now 3-2 in his last five bouts.

Buchecha's loss to Spann was his second loss in the UFC since signing with the company last July. He had previously fought to a draw in his last fight against Kennedy Nzechukwu. It was also the first time he had been knocked out as a professional. 

He has not won a contest since his final match before joining the UFC back in late 2024, where he scored a first- round submission win over Amir Aliakbari at ONE 169.

UFC Vegas 116: Raoni Barcelos def. Montel Jackson

Raoni Barcelos

Barcelos' win over Jackson is his fifth straight  triumph, with four of those fights going the distance. The victory also marked the first time in his almost 30-bout career that one of his scraps had ended via split decision. He has now won 11 tilts because of the judge’s scorecards.  

His UFC record now stands at 11-4. 

Montel Jackson 

His loss to Barcelos was his second consecutive defeat by split decision after previously losing to Deiveson Figueiredo in similar fashion last October at UFC Fight Night 261. The Barcelos match also was the first time he has lost back-to-back matches in his career

He has yet to be finished as a professional.

UFC Vegas 116: Davey Grant def. Adrián Luna Martinetti

Grant, at age 40, was the oldest fighter competing on the UFC Vegas main card. His win over the debuting Martinetti netted him a Fight of the Night bonus, making it the third time he has attained this award. 

Other than his loss to Jourdain, Grant has outlanded six of his last seven opponents.

Adrián Luna Martinetti

His loss to Grant spelled the end of his previous 15-fight winning streak, which dated back to 2017. It also granted him his second Fight of the Night bonus after earning one in his last bout on the Contender Series last year 

The only two losses of his professional tenure have stemmed from decision

UFC Vegas 116: Rafa García def. Alexander Hernandez 

Rafa García

Garcia's win over Hernandez is his third win in a row; he has not lost a match since being knocked out by Grant Dawson back in October of 2024. He has now won eight bouts by decision. 

His UFC record now stands at 7-4.

His loss to Hernandez brought his four-fight win streak to a close. It was the first time he had lost because of the scorecards at 155-lb since losing to Thiago Moisés back in 2021 at UFC Vegas 20 

His record in the UFC lightweight division now stands at 10-5 

UFC Vegas 116: Joselyne Edwards def. Norma Dumont

Joselyne Edwards

Her win over Dumont extended her current win streak to five, with the Brazilian being her only opponent in that stretch that she did not finish. She had previously not won a match on points in over three years

Her loss to Edwards brought to an end her previous six-bout win streak; she had not tasted defeat since UFC 274 in 2022, where she was bested by Macy Chiasson. She is now 3-1 after moving back to bantamweight in 2024.

UFC Vegas 116: Aljamain Sterling def. Youssef Zalal

His win over Zalal is his second consecutive victory, with both of those triumphs happening due to the judge’s scorecards. It's  also the most control time he has ever accrued in a UFC bout at 13:49 

His UFC featherweight record now stands at 3-1

Youssef Zalal

His setback to Sterling marked the first loss of his second stint in the UFC. He had not lost a scrap in nearly half a decade. It alsothe second time he had been outstruck in any of his matches with the organization 

All of his defeats as a professional have come via decision 

His UFC record now stands at 8-4-1.
