Conor McGregor responds to various questions from fight fans, reflects on UFC 329 injury-induced setback against Max Holloway
Conor McGregor suffered a gruesome mid-fight left leg injury that marred his lightweight clash against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His long road to recovery and busy schedule outside the realm of sports competition resulted in his return to the octagon being delayed multiple times.
The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion finally returned in a rematch against Max Holloway that headlined UFC 329 last Saturday, July 11. He'd gotten the better of Holloway by outpointing him in their first encounter, a featherweight clash back in 2013.
McGregor's long-awaited comeback in his welterweight clash against Holloway at UFC 329 ended with him suffering a leg injury, a reported injury to his right knee, causing him to lose via first-round TKO.
Holloway reacted by opining that a trilogy fight between them ought to be made. On that note, McGregor has now taken to X and echoed similar sentiments.
"The Notorious" participated in a Q&A session on the social media platform X and posted multiple statements about his comeback at UFC 329 and his imminent comeback that'll see him return at a future UFC event.
One of his X posts saw him clear the air on whether he was afflicted by anxiety or doubts heading into UFC 329. McGregor affirmed that he was "calm and relaxed," ready to dominate his foe. He also implied that the injury prevented him from showcasing his best version inside the octagon.
In an excerpt from another X post, McGregor signaled that he's likely to delete most of his posts from the Q&A session: "I will delete these as I am not getting into the back and forth and further annoying myself."
It seemed to come in response to the various rumors about his latest fight, with some detractors stating that his past reported addiction to alcohol and recreational drugs has diminished his athletic ability.
McGregor underscored that he's stayed away from, and would continue to steer clear of, substances of that ilk. Having admittedly adopted abstinence from alcohol and steered clear of s**ual relations as well during his fight camp for UFC 329, McGregor wrote:
"I have not and will not take any mind altering substances. I feel if the fight had of went any different, favorably or otherwise, even if the fight got to take place atleast, I may have cracked the seal on this and ended back in the cycle."
McGregor added, "However it went the way it went and I am awaiting my surgery and planning my recovery so zero mind altering substances have entered my body whatsoever. More time under extreme discipline is required and that is it. I find extreme discipline most enjoyable anyway so happy days."

Conor McGregor notes he "has to" face Max Holloway next, scoffs at preexisting injury rumors
Conor McGregor acknowledged that his apparent jumping/flying switch kick, which he started the fight with and injured himself, wasn't the most precise one he'd thrown. McGregor noted that he was perhaps too eager after his five-year hiatus and that he'll do better next time.
Nevertheless, he reiterated that the move, which he'd practiced quite a lot, is indeed an effective one. The Irishman also scoffed at the rumors and conspiracy theories that he'd entered the Max Holloway rematch with a preexisting injury.
The southpaw opined that his first fight against Holloway involved an injury to his left leg/back leg, while the rematch had him face an injury to his right leg/lead leg -- altering both fights' dynamics.
In addition to expressing his love for his supporters, McGregor underlined that his next fight -- the final one on his UFC deal -- has to come against Holloway. The 38-year-old wrote, "It has to be Holloway."
