Christian Lee's Journey to the Lumpinee Stadium on November 6th
28 year old Christian Lee as been one of the faces of ONE Championship for several years. Coming from the famous 'Lee' fighting family, Christian made both his MMA and ONE Championship debut in December 2015. He quickly rushed to 5-0, winning all fights via finish and was one of the hottest prospects in the sport.
Although he would lose his sixth professional fight, he would bounce back with a further four finishes which earned him his first title shot. He fought MArtin Nguyen in May 2018 and lst the fight via split decision. He would follow that up with another loss, albeit via DQ.
He then went on a tear. Something seemingly switched in Lee's mind and he finished Kazuki Tokudome and Edward Kelly in the first round.
A swtich to welterweight saw him meet the legendary Shinya Aoki and finish him in the second round to realise ONE Championship goal for the first time in his career. He would go on to make two defences of his welterweight title before running in to Rae Yoon Ok, losing his belt on that occassion. He would win his belt back just under a year after losing it in emphatic fashion. After just 1:00 into the second round of their rematch, Lee finished Rae Yoon Ok with knees to claim his title back.
Christian Lee would then go in search of greatness and challenge Kiamrian Abbasov for the ONE middleweight title. Abbasov was coming off an attempt to capture the ONE light heavyweight title, albeit in an unsuccessful jaunt up to the weight class. It would be another loss for Abbasov, who fell at the hands of Lee across four rounds.
After taking time away from the sport, Lee returned to defend his welterweight belt which firstly resulted in a no contest, before he defeated Alibeg Rasulov in the second round of their rematch.
His next test could be one of his most difficult.
Tye Ruotolo
Ruotolo has had an unconventional journey to his first ONE title fight. His MMA record sits at just 2-0, but it's in the BJJ world that he honed his craft.
At just 23, Ruotolo is already one of the most respected names in grappling circles. He's a two division WNO champion and picked up a bronze medal at the 2022 ACDD world championship. He's the ONE welterweight submission grappling world champion.
He's got impressive names on his record, including a finish victory over Garry Tonon and a defeated Reinier de Ridder by decision.
His MMA career has seen him submit Adrian Lee in the second round via submission before following that up with a first round submission over Shozo Isojima in November of last year.
Will he have the combat sports experience to get the better of Lee? All will be revealed when the two men meet in Bangkok.
