Christopher Ewert Exceeds Nontitle Maximum for UFC 317 Prelim, Gets Walking Papers

Saturday’s first fight on the early prelims of UFC 317 was to have seen a middleweight contest matching promotional debutante Christopher Ewert (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) with Jackson McVey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC.) At the weigh-ins this morning, Ewert clocked in 10 lbs beyond the nontitle maximum for middleweights.

Subsequent to this development, the fight was scrubbed from the show and Ewert was dismissed from the UFC’s active roster. Jackson McVey weighed-in on-target at 185 lbs, but his promotional debut will have to wait for another evening.

UFC 317 Main, Co-Main Events Cleared For Takeoff After Friday Morning Weigh-Ins

There was, however, no drama on the scales when it came to the two title fights at the top of the bill on tomorrow night’s show. Both fights will proceed as planned.

The Vacant UFC Lightweight Championship will be up for grabs Saturday night after both Ilia Topuria (155 lbs) and No. 2 contender Charles Oliveira (154 1/2 lbs) came in either on or below the prescribed weight for lightweights.

Your co-main event of the evening at UFC 317, a battle for the UFC Flyweight Championship, is ready for action following today’s weigh-in window. Champion Alexandre Pantoja (125 lbs) and No. 4 contender Kai Kara-France (125 lbs) each came in on championship weight.
