UFC 277 Results

The UFC is coming at fans from Dallas, Texas this week with multiple titles on the line while MMASucka provides UFC 277 results throughout the evening. Saturday night’s main event features a women’s bantamweight championship rematch between newly crowned champion Julianna Pena and former champion Amanda Nunes. In the co-main event, former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno takes on Kai Kara-France for the interim title and a shot at the champion, Deiveson Figueiredo.

UFC 277 Results – Main Event

Fresh off of coaching the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter, Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes will finally meet in the octagon once again. Their first fight took place at UFC 269 last December and was the night that Pena shocked the world and took Nunes’ title by submitting her in the second round. Prior to that win, Pena had only competed four times since the beginning of 2017. She was coming off of a four-fight win streak at that time but her streak was snapped in a fight with Valentina Shevchenko that saw Pena lose by submission in the second round of their main event at UFC on Fox 23.

After that fight, Pena took a couple of years off due to the birth of her daughter in 2018. She made her return fight in 2019 when she faced Nicco Montano and defeated her by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 155. In her next outing, Pena suffered another loss, this time against Germaine de Randamie as she was submitted by her in the third round of their fight at UFC on ESPN 16. Finally, before Pena faced off against Nunes for the title last year, she picked up a win over Sara McMann by third-round submission at UFC 257. Pena has won back-to-back fights for the first time since 2016 and she looks to keep the streak alive and retain her title with another big win over Nunes.

As Nunes steps into this fight, she comes off her first loss since 2014. Before she lost to Pena, Nunes was a double champion, holding, and defending, both of her belts in the women’s bantamweight and featherweight divisions. She still holds the featherweight title, but she will be fighting for the bantamweight strap on Saturday when she faces Pena once again. Coming into this fight and over the last ten years, Nunes has picked up a lot of wins over plenty of big names.

Those include KO/TKO wins over the likes of Ronda RouseyCris Cyborg, and Holly Holm. She holds submission wins over fighters like Sara McMann, Miesha Tate, and Megan Anderson. Finally, she also holds decision wins over Valentina Shevchenko (twice), Germaine de Randamie, and Felicia Spencer. Nunes looks to put herself back on top and take back the bantamweight title tonight if she can get her revenge on Julianna Pena.

UFC 277 Results – Co-Main Event

In the co-main event, the top two flyweight contenders in the world will face off for a shot at the champion, Deiveson Figueiredo. Two alums from the same season of The Ultimate Fighter, former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-France are battling it out for the interim title. Moreno and Kara-France have met once already back in 2019 when Moreno defeated Kara-France by unanimous decision at UFC 245.

Brandon Moreno is coming into this fight fresh off of his trilogy with the champion Figueiredo. The two of them first met at UFC 256 as Figueiredo was set to defend his flyweight title for the second time. They fought to a draw that night, meaning that Figueiredo got to keep the title. They fought again at UFC 263 where Moreno became the flyweight champion by submitting Figueiredo in the third round. In their third and most recent meeting, Figueiredo recaptured the flyweight title by defeating Moreno by unanimous decision at UFC 270. If Moreno can get past Kara-France at UFC 277, there is a good chance he could face off against Figueiredo for the fourth time.

Kara-France will be entering his interim title fight with Moreno coming off of three straight wins. After going 1-1 in 2020 with a UD win over Tyson Nam followed by a disappointing submission loss to Brandon Royval, Kara-France has since won his last three in a row. His first fight of 2021 resulted in a knockout win over Rogerio Bontorin in the first round of their fight at UFC 259. Later that year, Kara-France picked up another big TKO win, this time over former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt at UFC 269. In Kara-France’s most recent outing, he picked up a unanimous decision win over Askar Askarov to lock up his shot at the interim title.

UFC 277 Results – Main Card

Kicking things off on UFC 277’s main card will be a top-five fight in the light heavyweight division as Magomed Ankalaev faces off against former title challenger Anthony Smith. Ankalaev has not lost a fight since 2018 as he enters this fight on a winning streak of eight in a row. His most recent win was in the main event of UFC Vegas 50 when he defeated Thiago Santos by unanimous decision. Smith comes into the fight on a win streak of his own as he has won his last three straight including submission wins over Devin Clark and Ryan Spann as well as a TKO win over Jimmy Crute.

Following that fight will be a matchup in the flyweight division as Alexandre Pantoja takes on Alex Perez. Pantoja has won his last two in a row but has not fought in nearly a year coming into this fight as he defeated Manel Kape by UD at UFC Fight Night 184 followed by a submission win over Brandon Royval in his most recent fight at UFC Vegas 34. As for Perez, he has not fought since he failed an attempt at the title when he was submitted by Figueiredo at UFC 255. Prior to that, Perez had won three straight fights that included wins over Mark De La RosaJordan Espinosa, and Jussier Formiga.

Finally, before the co-main event kicks off there will be a matchup in the heavyweight division between Derrick Lewis and Sergei Pavlovich. Lewis will be entering the fight with a record of 1-2 in his last three outings. Over that time he has suffered KO/TKO losses to Ciryl Gane at UFC 265 as well as Tai Tuivasa at UFC 271. In between those losses, Lewis picked up a knockout win over Chris Daukaus in the main event of UFC Vegas 45. Pavlovich will be entering his fight with Lewis coming off of three straight KO/TKO wins over Marcelo GolmMaurice Greene, and Shamil Abdurakhimov.
