Conor McGregor was involved in one of the most high-profile fight card reshufflings in UFC history back in 2024.
The combat sports megastar was booked to return in a welterweight matchup against Michael Chandler in the headlining match of UFC 303 in June 2024. It would've been the first time he competed since his mid-fight leg break that transpired in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
Nevertheless, McGregor suffered a toe injury in training heading into UFC 303. The Irishman was left with no option but to withdraw from the fight against Chandler.
It precipitated a significant card reshuffling, as Alex Pereira was roped in to defend his UFC light heavyweight championship in a rematch against Jiri Prochazka on short notice to serve as the new headliner for UFC 303.

Presently, Conor McGregor is booked to take on Max Holloway, who's a former UFC featherweight kingpin and an ex-BMF titleholder. McGregor, a former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, previously bested the Hawaiian combatant via unanimous decision in their featherweight clash way back in 2013.
The Irishman's rematch against Holloway is set to transpire at welterweight. The two MMA icons will headline the UFC 329 event in Las Vegas this Saturday, July 11.
Well, the "UFC 329 Countdown -- McGregor vs. Holloway 2" episode released by the UFC on its official YouTube channel has brought to light how McGregor injured his toe back in 2024.
McGregor spoke about the injury, stating, "There was lapses in concentration in the training. I am the lead of the training. So if I am lapsing in concentration, it filters down. And that is what took place. The training partner -- I had no protection. Next thing you know, bang! Broke my f**king toe."
He added, "The injury happened. It was very, very difficult. It was my only time I've ever pulled out of a fight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). And it was a very, very tough one."
Furthermore, McGregor indicated that the 2024 injury pushed him to act on what he'd say to himself behind closed doors, motivating him to work on himself, which he did.
"The Notorious" one also discussed his long, arduous road to recovery from the gruesome leg injury he suffered back in 2021. Appearing to make an allusion to how he might have, for quite a long time, squandered the opportunity he was given to walk again, McGregor introspectively said:
"I've been gifted this ability to walk, pursuing my craft. And for too long, I disgraced that gift. And no more. So, every day, I count and start with a prayer to God, and I'm able to get up and go."
McGregor added that he's ecstatic about and looking forward to the opportunity he has to return to the octagon.
