“I should’ve played golf”: Michael Page opens up on his love-hate relationship with MMA
Michael Page opens up about the emotional highs and lows of his MMA career. He explains why he sometimes questions his path.
MMA is arguably the toughest sport in the world. A fighter has to sacrifice a lot to reach the top and constantly has to go through tough phases throughout their career. Recently, UFC star Michael ‘Venom’ Page has opened up about the emotional highs and lows that come with competing in MMA.
He admitted that there are times when he questions why he chose the sport.
Michael Page reveals why he sometimes questions his MMA career
Speaking with UFC, Page explained that his feelings toward MMA can change depending on the phase of his career. He admitted that while he loves the sport, there are some days when he questions his decision to pursue MMA and wonders whether he would have been better off choosing a sport like golf instead.
“To be honest, it's very difficult. You go in and out of phases of like, I really enjoy this, I love it. And then like, oh, I hate, why am I doing this? I should’ve played golf,” Page said.
However, despite those occasional doubts, Page emphasizes that his passion for martial arts remains at the heart of who he is. He pointed to the development of individual disciplines such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and kickboxing as examples of why the sport continues to challenge him.
“I think that's just the normal thing, but my core does love martial arts. My core does love this game and the puzzles, and the constant improvements. And what I mean about improvements, I don't mean necessarily just personally, from each individual sport. Jiu-jitsu seems to get better. Wrestling seems to get better. Kickboxing seems to get better.” Page explained.
He believes MMA will never become boring because there is always another skill to develop and test himself, which motivates him to continue doing what he has been doing.
“It's just fun that it's just never boring,” Page added. “So I feel blessed to be able to work in a space that is constantly evolving in a positive way and keeps you with your learning hat on and wanting to improve.”

For Page, the occasional frustration appears to be part of the journey rather than a sign that his passion is fading at the end of his career. Despite being 39 years old, he is still at the top of the game and challenging himself against top fighters. He will be in action this weekend for his next challenge.
Michael Page set for middleweight showdown with Nursulton Ruziboev
Page is set to test himself against the Uzbekistan fighter Nursulton Ruziboev in the middleweight bout in the fight night event headlined by Dan Hooker vs Salahdine Parnasse. The event will be live from Accor Arena in Paris.
‘Venom,’ who is riding a three-fight win streak, will look to extend his record. On the other hand, Ruziboev is also on the same win streak as the Page. It will be interesting to see who gets his hand raised and keeps his win streak.
