‘I’ll Fight You Right Now’: Bodycam Captures Dustin Poirier’s Atlanta Airport Arrest

Whether it was five-round wars, championship heartbreaks, or improbable comebacks, former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier always seemed to find a way through adversity.
Retirement, however, appears to have presented the veteran with a very different kind of opponent. Days after Poirier was arrested at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Father's Day, newly surfaced bodycam footage has provided a closer look at the encounter, capturing a visibly frustrated former UFC star during a heated exchange with responding officers.
Bodycam Footage Captures Heated Airport Exchange; Dustin Poirier Opens Up About Retirement Struggles
According to various reports, the incident began just before 5:00 p.m., after Poirier was prevented from boarding a Delta flight bound for Fort Lauderdale due to his apparent intoxication. What initially appeared to be a routine disagreement soon escalated once officers arrived near the gate.
Bodycam footage shows the former fighter growing increasingly agitated as authorities attempted to defuse the situation. In fact, at one point, after an officer appeared to recognize the former UFC star, Poirier responded with profanity before issuing a challenge - "I'll fight you right now,"
Meanwhile, rather than engage, the officer can be seen calmly replying, "I don't want to fight," while requesting additional assistance.
As tempers flared, Poirier appeared to accept the outcome, saying, “If you want to arrest me, then go ahead… Arrest me. That's the best way, dog.” The situation eventually cooled, with footage showing the 37-year-old extending what looked to be a fist bump before he was escorted away and later booked into Clayton County Jail on charges of public drunkenness and misdemeanor conduct.
He was released later that evening. Shortly after the footage surfaced online, “The Diamond” addressed the incident on social media.

The Louisiana native later shared a more candid message, acknowledging that stepping away from professional fighting has taken a significant toll on him.
"I'm at the point where I need some help, walking away from fighting hasn't been easy on me and alcohol isn't the answer," Poirier admitted in an Instagram story. "It has ruined my father's life and I will not allow it to ruin mine. My family deserve me at 100%. I'm trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps."
Earlier, Poirier had spoken about struggling without the structure of training camps and scheduled fights, even admitting that having no goals on his calendar leaves him vulnerable to destructive habits.
Bobby Green Comes to Poirier’s Defense Following Arrest
While much of the MMA community expressed concern about Poirier's well-being, others, like Colby Covington, took it as an opportunity to pile on. However, veteran lightweight Bobby Green offered a different perspective.
Green, who also had his fair share of trouble with the law, jumped onto social media and questioned the circumstances surrounding Poirier's arrest, suggesting the former title challenger deserved some grace.
He wrote, "You're telling me on Father's Day I can't get drunk? They caught him at 6:30 PM not at 2 AM or 4 AM. With all the s**t we go through, let me enjoy my drink and leave me the f**k alone."
However, Green's comments sparked debate among fans, with some agreeing that Poirier's status as a retired fighter navigating life outside the Octagon warranted empathy, while others argued that public intoxication at an airport is difficult to excuse regardless of one's accomplishments.
