Umar Nurmagomedov sends three-word message to Song Yadong after devastating UFC Shanghai KO loss 

In the main event of UFC Shanghai, the MMA community witnessed arguably the biggest upset of the year as Umar Nurmagomedov, a heavy favorite entering the bout, was brutally knocked out by the Chinese star Song Yadong in the second round. 

Following the devastating loss, Umar shared a statement on his social media handle and has now congratulated the Chinese fighter on the biggest win of his career.

After a heartbreaking loss, Umar took to Instagram to release a statement in which he promised to learn from his mistakes and vowed to come back stronger. 

He captioned the post, "Everything is fine with me." Alhamdulillah, thank you so much to everyone who writes. I will work on the mistakes. And I will be back.”

The post quickly went viral and caught the attention of Yadong; he commented with a folded hands emoji, which earned a reply from the Dagestani. 

Despite the brutal nature of the defeat, Umar appeared to put the result behind him and congratulated Yadong on his career-defining victory. The Dagestani contender responded to Yadong’s comment with a simple three-word message: “Congratulations, champ. Enjoy.”

In his recent YouTube video, Cormier breaks down the sequence that left Umar unconscious on the canvas. He explained that Yadong’s punch connected to the side of the head, instantly shocking the Dagestani equilibrium, and claimed that it wouldn't have been different if it had landed on the chin, as fighters are used to that.

“Umar shoots for a double leg, Song defends, throws a right uppercut, drops Umar. The uppercut grazes him on the side of the head, which is one of the worst places to be hit,” Cormier explained. “We get hit on the chin so many times, and we can handle that. But when you get hit here, and it shocks the equilibrium, and you fall, your body goes completely limp, and that's what happened to Umar today. He got hit, he got caught against a guy that has tremendous power.”
