Iwo Baraniewski sees Alonzo Menifield fight as chance to enter UFC top 15

Iwo Baraniewski knows he will face a dangerous opponent when he takes on Alonzo Menifield at UFC 331. The undefeated light heavyweight prospect respects Menifield's striking and experience but sees the matchup as an opportunity to move closer to the UFC's top 15.

Baraniewski and Menifield will meet on Saturday in Los Angeles, with the Polish fighter looking to continue his perfect professional record. The 27-year-old has won all nine of his fights, finishing all of his opponents in the first round.

Iwo Baraniewski Respects Alonzo Menifield's Experience

Baraniewski has been in the UFC for just one year and has already made an impression in the promotion. After earning a UFC contract by knocking out Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Mahamed Aly in just 20 seconds at Dana White's Contender Series, the Polish fighter made his promotional debut in December, securing another first-round knockout victory against Ibo Aslan. Over the following six months, Baraniewski stepped inside the Octagon twice and won both bouts via first-round TKO, against Austen Lane and Junior Tafa.

Now, Baraniewski is in for a significant test as he takes on Menifield. The American veteran has been competing in the UFC since 2019 and has faced several ranked light heavyweights. However, despite his opponent's experience, Baraniewski believes he is prepared for the challenge. In fact, the Polish fighter sees the fight as an important opportunity.

"I know that he's a very dangerous striker," Baraniewski said during UFC 331 media day. "I know that he's an experienced fighter. But I'm ready for it. This is for me a good chance to climb to the top 15."

Aware that he will be facing a dangerous fighter at UFC 331, Baraniewski is already envisioning how the matchup will play out. The Polish fighter expects Menifield to approach the fight in one of two ways. He believes his opponent could immediately pressure him or wait for an opportunity to counter. Either way, Baraniewski is confident he is prepared for both scenarios.

"I think two options: Maybe he will rush on me, but I'm ready for it," Baraniewski said. "But I think maybe he will be waiting for a counter. We will see on Saturday. I'm ready for these two options. I have plans for these two options, so we will see. Maybe it will go like in my debut."

While Baraniewski enters the matchup undefeated with nine professional victories, Menifield has significantly more cage experience, holding an 18-6-1 record.
