Company man, long-time commentator and podcasting royalty, Joe Rogan, has backed the UFC and slammed competitor, PFL.
In the most recent edition of his podcast, Joe Rogan welcomed boxing legend, Terence Crawford, on to discuss all things boxing, MMA and in particular, promoters and what’s best for the fighters themselves. Crawford is a man who has made a lot of money during his career, however, as we all know, boxers make a lot more than MMA fighters, even those competing for the UFC.

“No one is watching”
Speaking on the power of fighters in comparison to promoters, the two men began to discuss business decisions made by fighters.
Joe Rogan stated: “The UFC is more extreme, because it’s really just the UFC. Even Francis Ngannou right, Francis Ngannou, one of the most devastating fighters to ever compete in MMA, UFC heavyweight champion, they couldn’t get a deal signed and he winds up leaving and going to the PFL.”
He continued: “But nobody is watching, nobody watches, nobody cares. He knocked out some dude in the PFL, nobody cared.”
The PFL Problem
The problem is that the PFL began with a lot of potential. They had huge names, which have since been poached by the UFC. After the acquisition of Bellator and its fighters was a big move, however, it hasn’t worked. It’s confused fans with cross-promotional events, belts and fighters.

A lack of viable competition is holding back huge stars. Dakota Ditcheva should be competing against the best women in the world at 125lbs, however, the PFL don’t have the roster to really stretch her abilities.
Kayla Harrison has reached the pinnacle of the sport, becoming UFC champion status since leaving the PFL, and there is no doubt that she is now one of the world’s best, surrounded by other elite fighters.
When Joe Rogan stated, “Nobody is watching”, he had a point. In what should bring a lot of hype, Paul Hughes’ return to Ireland, the PFL has chosen to put the event on a Thursday night – not a good look.

The PFL have to improve if they want people to care and want people to watch.
