UFC signs undefeated Asaf Chopurov for UFC 333 debut
The UAE Warriors bantamweight champion will make his Octagon debut against Colby Thicknesse on Oct. 24.
The UFC has signed undefeated bantamweight Asaf Chopurov. The 24-year-old Azerbaijani is expected to make his Octagon debut against Colby Thicknesse at UFC 333 on Oct. 24 in Abu Dhabi. According to a report from MMA Junkie, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed Chopurov's signing after his name appeared on the UFC's website.
Asaf Chopurov Joins UFC With Perfect Record
Chopurov joins the promotion with an 11-0 professional record, finishing 10 of his 11 victories. "Honey Badger" is the reigning UAE Warriors bantamweight champion after winning the vacant title in October 2025 and defending it twice. Most recently, Chopurov knocked out Reece McLaren in the first round at UAE Warriors 72 in July. The Azerbaijani also went 34-1 as an amateur.
The Azerbaijani will face Thicknesse in his promotional debut. The Australian has a 9-1 professional record and is 2-1 in the UFC after defeating Vince Morales by unanimous decision in his most recent appearance. Chopurov and Thicknesse are scheduled to meet on the UFC 333 undercard in Abu Dhabi.
Chopurov will also have a familiar face competing on the same card. The Azerbaijani is a training partner of UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan, who will defend his title against Merab Dvalishvili in the UFC 333 co-main event.
UFC 333 is scheduled for Oct. 24 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, with Alexander Volkanovski and Movsar Evloev headlining the event.
