"Unlikeable" - Jorge Masvidal hopes Islam Makhachev chokes Ian Machado Garry out at UFC 330

Ian Machado Garry has often found himself on the receiving end of considerable criticism from certain sections of the MMA community. 

Jorge Masvidal, who's hailed as a mixed martial arts legend and holds the distinction of being the UFC's inaugural BMF champion, has now taken aim at Garry over his polarizing public persona. 

Masvidal suggested that Garry is well aware of how some MMA fans perceive him due to his socio-political views. The American fighter of Cuban descent asserted that Garry, as such, amplifies some parts of his personality to rile up his detractors even more.

Jorge Masvidal, on Full Send MMA, recently addressed a myriad of topics, including the upcoming UFC welterweight championship clash.

Ex-UFC lightweight champion and reigning UFC welterweight kingpin Islam Makhachev is booked to defend his welterweight belt against Ian Machado Garry. The Dagestani titlist and the Irish challenger would headline UFC 330 in Philadelphia on August 15. 

Garry, on his part, recently caught flak for some of his comments on social and geopolitical talking points during an appearance on the High Performance podcast, wherein he opened up about his upcoming fight as well. 

"The Future" happened to make a statement that some deemed to be deliberately incendiary, as he stated that the world would be a much better place if women were to run it.

A few of Garry's critics accused him of pandering to the far-left ideologues, whereas his supporters argued that his remarks were simply appreciative of women and opposed the far-right hardliners. 

Masvidal alluded to the aforementioned variables and insinuated that Garry knows that his views aren't in line with what most MMA fans supposedly hold. He underscored that, as such, the Dubliner doubles down on his support for those whose values are similar to his and provokes his disparagers. The MMA legend stated: 

"I think he's just unlikeable, naturally, normally. Like, when he opens up his mouth, he's just unlikeable. But he's playing more on it. You know? Maybe he's adding a little bit more to it. But he's naturally unlikeable. He knows he was never going to be liked." 

Masvidal added, "And his beta mentality -- most males that watch this sport -- he's pitching to the wrong crowd. He should be talking to other crowds. He's talking to the rowdiest, most masculine, toxic dudes on the planet." 

The 41-year-old opined that it's Garry's prerogative if he desires to have women run his world, whilst adding that the Irish fighter mustn't impose those views on others. He reaffirmed, "Let a woman run your f**king world. Don't tell us what the f**k it is."

Jorge Masvidal yet again emphasized that Ian Machado Garry intentionally presents himself in a particular manner to play on the public narrative about him. He implied that the fashion in which Garry opts to carry himself and a lot more about his personality is in contrast to that of most men. 

"Gamebred" explained, "I think he plays on those emotions a little bit, too. 'Cause he knows his views are not what most men align themselves with." 

It's noteworthy that Masvidal, at the very beginning of the conversation, signaled that Garry is a good striker with agile footwork. Nevertheless, he picked Makhachev to eventually break him and secure the finish. 

Moreover, seemingly expressing his disdain for the 28-year-old, Masvidal highlighted he'd like to see Makhachev render him unconscious at UFC 330. 

He said, "I'm hoping Makhachev chokes the p**s out of him; just gets him, puts him to sleep, leaves him there sleeping like a baby."
