The announcement many thought would be that Ciryl Gane would rematch Alex Pereira for the belt, but no, it will be Josh Hokit who steps in there against Gane to compete for the belt. Hokit, who is 4-0 in the UFC. Hokit, who is coming off a win against Derrick Lewis, a man who is 41 years old and hasn't been a top contender since 2019... that Josh Hokit.

UFC 334 will take place at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City. The same New York that was devastated 25 years ago by the 9/11 attacks. With the anniversary of 9/11 being just last week, Hokit took the opportunity to post a short video telling jokes about the tragedy. All this within days of him being gifted a title shot in New York itself. A terrible look for the UFC.

UFC 334 - Ciryl Gane vs Josh Hokit

Josh Hokit is getting a shot at heavyweight gold despite not earning it. For context, he's 6-1 in his last seven, having only lost to Ciryl Gane in a fight that many believed he won. There's no doubting that the Russian is more deserving of a shot than Hokit.

Yes, Hokit is an entertaining fighter when he steps into the octagon, but the persona and personality outside of it shouldn't be what the UFC is trying to promote.

If the UFC want to promote a man who is openly racist and sexist (see Michelle Obama quotes at the White House) and a man who makes jokes about America's greatest tragedy, on their head be it.

If you want Hokit to be the poster boy of the UFC, the man who is going to have the eyes of the world on him, the man who is going to grab headlines and the man who is going to be regarded as 'the baddest man on the planet', any backlash received is warranted.

He isn't a good human being. He says things to get a reaction and has such a lust to grab headlines that he'll say and do anything to get on the front page. The saddest thing about all of this is that... it's worked. The UFC and Dana White have fallen for it and gifted him a shot at gold.
