Anderson Silva Pens Emotional Message For Ex-UFC Star After Shooting Incident

One of UFC's biggest stars has emerged in support of Tim Kennedy and others who were fatally injured in an ambush in Congo.
Former UFC star and Green Beret Tim Kennedy came under heavy fire on Sept. 17 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, sustaining three gunshot wounds to his legs. However, the news broke only recently, with Anderson Silva sharing heartfelt words with his former colleague.
Anderson Silva Shares Statement on Recent Congo Tragedy
Tim Kennedy, a member of a team hired by Vectus Global to protect mining revenues, crack down on smuggling, and collect taxes, was travelling to the country's eastern highlands. A group of contractors and Congolese soldiers also accompanied the former fighter when the ambush unfolded.
Around 20 people were killed or injured in the assault, with former New Zealand special forces soldier Justin Conaglen among the casualties. While Kennedy survived the attack, the American soldier also sustained multiple gunshots. Taking to Instagram, 'Spider' Silva shared a detailed, touching message to the victims.
"Hey brother, I heard about the terrible news. Strength to you and your family. We're all praying that you get well. God bless. Tim Kennedy our brother and fellow former UFC MMA fighter and former Green Beret was shot several times mainly in the leg during an ambush on September 17 in the Democratic Republic of Congo while working a private security contract.
"He survived his injuries and an evacuation of about eight hours and then was taken for treatment in the United States. In the same attack former New Zealand SAS soldier Justin Conaglen was killed and a third member of the crew was also injured. Prayers for Tim Kennedy for Justin Conaglen family and everyone involved in this case."
While much remains under wraps, Tim Kennedy is fortunately receiving extensive medical care as he makes his journey back from the lethal macabre.
Tim Kennedy Transported to the US for Recovery
After an eight-hour-long evacuation, the American soldier was finally brought to the US for further treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C. However, before Kennedy reached the United States, he made his journey through Burundi and then South Africa. He received medical care at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg before finally being flown to the US.
Beyond this point, little is known about Tim Kennedy's recovery, although reports suggest the former martial artist is doing better now. The Green Beret has bounced back from such terrifying incidents before, with his experience in the American military.
Through an 18X Special Forces program, Kennedy completed multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. The latest tragedy may have added a difficult chapter to his post-UFC career, but Anderson Silva has made it clear that Tim Kennedy wouldn't have to weather the storm alone.
