Charles Oliveira says Carlos Prates can Exploit Islam Makhachev After Ian Machado Garry Exposed Weaknesses at UFC 330

Garry challenged welterweight champion and pound-for-pound king Islam Makhachev in the main event of UFC 330. The Dubliner's work on his takedown defense during his trip to Gori, Georgia, partially paid off, and he also did not get submitted throughout the 25-minute title fight.

Although Garry was knocked down once and controlled for more than 12 minutes, the Irishman inflicted significant damage on Makhachev's face in the clinch and gave the Dagestani wrestling maestro a hard time on the feet. However, he ultimately failed to dethrone the champion.

Makhachev is expected to defend his title against top contender Carlos Prates next year, and Charles Oliveira, who has shared the cage with Makhachev, has some advice for his fellow Brazilian, Prates.

Charles Oliveira breaks down Potential Islam Makhachev vs. Carlos Prates Bout

In an interview with Sherdog, the BMF titleholder opined that Ian Machado Garry has already given his former opponent, Carlos Prates, the blueprint for beating Islam Makhachev.

Oliveira believes Prates' Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, knockout power, and sniper-like precision make him a nightmare matchup for Makhachev. He added that if the two-division UFC champion fails to finish Prates in the first or second frame, "The Nightmare" could have a strong chance of dethroning the Russian phenom in the championship rounds. "Do Bronxs" said:

"If he lands those kicks to the ribs and calves like Garry, he could catch Islam off guard. If Islam doesn't secure a finish in the first or second round and Prates maintains his composure, he has everything he needs to win."

Another Brazilian UFC Fighter Believes Carlos Prates Can Stop Makhachev 

Carlos Prates' Fighting Nerds teammate Jean Silva also believes that Prates, who has knocked out two former UFC champions back-to-back, can extend his streak to three by sending Islam Makhachev to the shadow realm. 

Silva has suggested that it would be difficult for Makhachev to stand and bang with Prates or "go five rounds without taking a big shot."
