The former flyweight and bantamweight champion reveals how his relationship with Jon Jones started.

Henry Cejudo and Jon Jones are widely regarded as two of the greatest fighters in UFC history. Interestingly, both have won titles in two different divisions. Cejudo held the flyweight and bantamweight titles, while Jones captured championships at light heavyweight and heavyweight.

In fact, Cejudo helped Jones prepare for his heavyweight title fight, which Jones went on to win. Now, Cejudo has revealed how that came about.

Henry Cejudo Reveals How Jon Jones’ Relationship Started

During an episode of the Double Coverage podcast, Henry Cejudo said Jones contacted him after watching his technical breakdown of fights.

“Jon Jones was the first one to hit me up. He’s like, ‘Bro, I saw your breakdown on me. I couldn’t explain myself better than what you did.’He came down on six different occasions just to learn from me. I wasn’t trying to steal him or be his coach. You bring in the Lamborghini, I’m the one that waxes the Lamborghini,” Cejudo said.

Cejudo was associated with Fight Ready MMA gym in Phoenix, Arizona. Jones visited the UFC legend six times during his heavyweight debut preparations.

Jones’ Heavyweight Debut

After vacating his light heavyweight title in 2020, Jon Jones underwent a weight-gain and strength-building program to prepare for the heavyweight division.

He made his heavyweight debut in 2023, facing Ciryl Gane for the vacant title. His training with Henry Cejudo paid off inside the Octagon, as Jones submitted Gane in under three minutes of the first round.

Jones then defended the title just once, knocking out Stipe Miocic in the third round in 2024 before vacating the belt and retiring from the sport.

On several occasions, ‘Bones’ has hinted at a return to fighting, including for the UFC White House event. However, that comeback never materialized.
