Islam Makhachev Blasts Ian Garry’s "Bad Guy" Routine Ahead of Showdown

Islam Makhachev is not buying what Ian Machado Garry is selling. As the two prepare to clash at UFC 330  in Philadelphia with the UFC welterweight title on the line, the champion believes the fans in attendance will firmly back the Dagestani superstar. The reason? According to Makhachev, fight fans are simply tired of Garry’s antics.

Addressing the pre-fight build-up, Makhachev took aim at Garry’s public persona and his relentless media rounds. “He acts like he’s a bad guy, tries to do too much interviews,” Makhachev said. “The crowd is gonna be on my side because nobody likes my opponent. We will make him humble.”

The Heel Persona Backfired

Makhachev entered the welterweight division and claimed the crown by defeating Jack Della Maddalena, cementing his status as a two-division UFC champion. Now, he faces a hungry contender in Garry, who earned his shot after bouncing back from his first career loss against Shavkat Rakhmonov with victories over Belal Muhammad and Carlos Prates.

Garry has never shied away from the spotlight. Representing Team Chute Boxe, the Irishman has built his reputation on loud confidence and sharp trash talk. Ahead of UFC 330, Garry raised the temperature even higher, promising to "put a hole in his head" and warning that his elite takedown defense and striking will frustrate the champion.

However, Makhachev views Garry’s heel persona as overdone and unnatural. Rather than building genuine heat, Makhachev feels the Dublin native has alienated fight fans by trying too hard to play the villain during media appearances.
