Javier Mendez stated that there has been no clear discussion among the team for a possible UFC transition for Usman Nurmagomedov despite heavy rumors.
Usman Nurmagomedov is now without a contract. Following his PFL New York victory, the star athlete is now a free agent. This situation has sparked a heated debate among the MMA community. Most fans are speculating that Nurmagomedov might finally join UFC, following the lead of Khabib Nurmagomedov. While the fighter is yet to make a decision, Javier Mendez had an honest take on the situation.
Is Usman Nurmagomedov Really Joining The UFC?
Following his first-round knockout victory against Archie Colgan, Nurmagomedov established his credibility as a menacing fighter even more. With the likes of Khabib and Umar already popular names in Dana White’s UFC, the calls for the 28-year-old to join the company are mounting. However, in a latest statement, coach Mendez stated that there is no clarity on the matter currently.
Mendez also said that the team has not yet discussed a potential UFC move. With a lot of variables to sort, Nurmagomedov will try to fathom if pushing for a UFC title will be an intelligent decision. Speaking on Submission Radio, Mendez said, “No, we haven't discussed it. But, I mean, you can imagine if he does end up there. I don't know because you don't know what the negotiation's going to be like. You don't know.”
The coach also reflected that he will try to guide Nurmagomedov in the best possible way. However, ultimately, it would be the 28-year-old’s decision which career option he deems fit for the future.

Given Nurmagomedov’s pedigree, he is undoubtedly one of the finest mixed martial artists outside of the UFC. Following his dominant victory over the previously undefeated Archie Colgan, a probable switch to the UFC looks likely. With the speculation picking up pace, the UFC boss was asked whether his company was interested in the champion fighter.
White immediately replied, “Sure.”
White’s interest means that UFC fans might just be lucky enough to witness yet another five-star addition to the promotion. But for now, fans will have to wait and watch what happens next.
