Merab Dvalishvili praises Song Yadong’s knockout power and reveals when he realized Petr Yan was too difficult to take down.

Merab Dvalishvili is already eyeing his next challenge after facing Petr Yan, and Song Yadong's recent knockout victory over Umar Nurmagomedov has caught his attention. The former UFC Bantamweight Champion has lauded Song’s striking skills and expressed his desire to take on the Chinese fighter if he manages to get past Yan in their upcoming trilogy fight. As Dvalishvili gears up for what could be one of the toughest tests of his career, he’s already setting his sights on another thrilling matchup.

Merab Dvalishvili Impressed by Song Yadong’s Performance

Dvalishvili confessed that he initially expected Nurmagomedov to win their matchup, but he also had faith in Song's knockout power. The outcome really struck a chord with the Georgian, who has always appreciated Song's striking skills.

“That was impressive,” Dvalishvili said when asked about Song’s performance. “I always knew he hits hard and he’s dangerous.”

The former champion then revealed that a victory over Yan could set up a clash with Song.
“If I beat Petr Yan, then I’m going to fight him next,” Dvalishvili said. “And I like the danger, you know.”

The comments underline Dvalishvili’s willingness to face another formidable opponent rather than look for an easier path after the trilogy.

Merab Dvalishvili Looks to Settle the Score in Petr Yan Trilogy

Merab Dvalishvili is gearing up for a pivotal trilogy fight against Petr Yan, eager to turn the tables after his last defeat and prove himself against one of the UFC's most formidable bantamweights. The Georgian fighter entered their second bout on an impressive 14-fight winning streak, but he found Yan’s strength and takedown defense to be tougher than he anticipated.

Speaking about the rematch, Dvalishvili revealed that his takedown attempts drained his energy, forcing him to abandon his original strategy and enjoy the fight instead. He was taken aback by how challenging it was to keep Yan under control on the ground, even recalling moments when Yan managed to lift and toss him around.

As he heads into the trilogy, Dvalishvili is convinced that sticking to his own fighting style is crucial, rather than trying to go toe-to-toe with Yan in boxing. He also hinted at having some new tricks up his sleeve. With his legacy at stake, the Georgian is laser-focused on clinching a decisive victory.
