Merab Dvalishvili Predicts Dominant Return for Ilia Topuria

It's been a long time since Ilia Topuria last fought. Defending his lightweight belt against Justin Gaethje, ‘El Matador’ suffered a devastating loss. While the nature of his loss has critics doubting Topuria’s prowess, Merab Dvalishvili is sure that his friend will come back stronger.

Topuria was left bloodied by Gaethje as the latter took the UFC lightweight gold. After four rounds of war, the ‘ El Matador’ was deemed medically unfit to continue any further into the fifth round. Following the bout, medical diagnosis revealed that the Spaniard has suffered from a broken nose and fractures to both his orbital bones. 

Such a major injury can heavily impact the mental strength of a fighter. According to the Georgian star, Topuria is built differently.

Dvalishvili told Ariel Helwani, “As you guys all see, he's having a great time. He's enjoying life. When he comes back, he will get back the belt and he will beat everybody. Nobody can stop him."

Currently, there is no official timeline for when Topuria would return. As of now, the Spanish fighter is still in his recovery phase and is expected to take some time before he can get back into the octagon. Meanwhile, Dvalishvili also slammed the ones who have been criticizing the former UFC double champ for his loss.

As Gaethje celebrated with the title, there were significant comments about Topuria being unable to continue, especially after the former champion promised to put Gaethje to sleep before the bout. There were also several memes circulating online, with ‘El Matador’ getting trolled as well.

Dvalishvili seems really confident about Topuria’s return. Now, all eyes will be on when and how the 17-1 fighter orchestrates his big comeback.
