Michael Chandler sends a chilling warning to Mauricio Ruffy before UFC Freedom 250 fight

Former Bellator lightweight champion and current UFC lightweight staple, Michael Chandler, has issued an eerie warning to Mauricio Ruffy heading into their clash at UFC Freedom 250.
Michael Chandler has seemingly been pulling out all the stops ahead of his much-awaited return to the octagon.
The 40-year-old is beheld as a veteran of the sport of MMA and is a former Bellator lightweight champion. He's been a staple of the UFC lightweight division since his promotional debut in 2021.
Chandler has now issued a warning to his next opponent, Mauricio Ruffy, just days away from their scheduled fight.
Michael Chandler is looking to return to his winning ways by beating Mauricio Ruffy at the UFC White House event
Michael Chandler is currently on a three-fight losing streak. It started with a submission defeat against Dustin Poirier in 2022. That was followed by a unanimous decision loss in a rematch against Charles Oliveira in 2024, and he was then TKO'd by Paddy "The Baddy" Pimblett in 2025.
On the other hand, Mauricio Ruffy is 2-1 in his past three octagon outings. "One Shot" is coming off a TKO victory against Rafael Fiziev earlier this year. As of this time, Chandler and Ruffy are booked to clash in a lightweight matchup at UFC Freedom 250 at the White House on June 14.
Michael Chandler's warning to Mauricio Ruffy before their UFC Freedom 250 fight
During his UFC Freedom 250 media scrum, Michael Chandler was asked about his next opponent, Brazil's Mauricio Ruffy.
Incidentally, certain sections of the MMA community draw parallels between Ruffy and combat sports megastar Conor McGregor due to their unique striking styles. It's well-known that Chandler was linked to a welterweight matchup against the legendary McGregor in 2024, which fell apart due to a toe injury that ruled the Irishman out of it.
Chandler broke down Ruffy's fighting style and stated, "I see him (Mauricio Ruffy) as a guy who probably grew up watching mixed martial arts on TV, and watching the highlights on YouTube, and wanted to be a certain style, and wanted to be a certain type of fighter."
Moreover, Chandler emphasized that he himself, on the contrary, is a grinder, a wrestler from the University of Missouri. Apparently, he views himself as a hammer seeking a nail, while he feels Ruffy fights akin to someone who's playing a video game.
Here, Chandler indicated that Ruffy's extraordinary striking maneuvers might backfire when they're exhausted. Warning that he'll snatch his foe's soul, the one-time UFC lightweight title challenger said:
"So when the going gets tough, when the waters get deep, whenever the oxygen gets sucked out of the octagon, whenever things that you thought were gonna work aren't working. Whenever the big shot lands, and I shake it off, and I look you right in the eyes, and I come snatch your soul -- you know, where's he gonna be? I think we've seen that in the past."
Chandler reiterated that he doesn't intend to discredit Ruffy. However, "Iron" asserted that he brings a different sort of ferocity, chaos, and pace that many opponents are surprised by.
Moreover, the American fighter pointed out that he's fought a number of elite combatants -- including champions, interim champions, and athletes who've competed for championships.
As such, he opined that it remains to be seen whether Ruffy sinks or swims when he'll face him inside the octagon.
