Muay Thai Legend Sitthichai Calls Time on Career After Brutal KO Loss, Sets Final Fight

For a fighter who once put down the man who is now a two-time ONE Championship Featherweight Kickboxing champion, Superbon Banchamek, Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong’s latest knockout loss served as a brutal reminder of the unforgiving nature of combat sports.

The veteran has competed across the globe in the “Art of Eight Limbs,” but his latest outing in Japan ended in a way few could have expected. Competing at Knock Out 68 in Yokohama, Sitthichai faced last-minute replacement Taimu Hisai, who stunned the 34-year-old with a vicious uppercut that sent the Muay Thai legend crashing to the canvas.

Sitthichai Announces Retirement After Legendary Career

MMA fans have already witnessed the brutal fall of Tony Ferguson, "The Boogeyman" of the lightweight division, who once went on an absolute tear before leaving the UFC on a dismal eight-fight skid. In a land of make-believe, “age” would be nothing more than a number. 

In the fight game, it can become something far more dangerous, a chink in a fighter’s armor that gets harder to hide with every passing year.

Coming to Sitthichai’s case, at 34, the “Killer Kid” has already packed more into his career than most fighters could dream of. The Thai veteran won titles in both Muay Thai and kickboxing, including the Glory Kickboxing lightweight championship and the Lumpinee welterweight title. 

December Retirement Fight Set

For all the glory, the final stretch of his career has been a rough ride for the veteran. Following his latest loss, the Thai legend issued a heartfelt statement acknowledging that every career eventually ends and revealed that he has one final fight in December.

He wrote, “Everything that has a beginning must also have an end. It’s time for the older generation to gradually pass the torch and let the next generation carry on. As for me… I still have one final fight left this December. I will give it everything I have, and I’ll see you in the ring for my final fight. Then I’ll hang up the gloves.”

His career saw him far beyond Thailand. From the biggest stages in kickboxing to ONE Championship, Sitthichai spent years testing himself against the very best in the world. He even owns a memorable win over Superbon Banchamek, who has since gone on to become a two-time ONE Championship Featherweight Kickboxing champion.

However, Sitthichai lost four of his final five fights in ONE Championship and has been unable to find a win since leaving the promotion. Saturday's defeat to Hisai added another difficult chapter to that run, and this time, it appears to have convinced the veteran that his time in the sport is nearing its end.

Taimu Hisai Shocks Sitthichai with Vicious Uppercut

Long story short, the manner of the defeat made Sitthichai's retirement announcement even more jarring.

The veteran was originally expected to face a different opponent at Knock Out 68 in Yokohama, but 20-year-old Taimu Hisai stepped in on short notice. Making the challenge even greater, Hisai moved up a weight class to share the ring with one of the most accomplished strikers of his generation.

None of that seemed to matter once the fight began. Hisai found his moment in the second round. The Japanese phenom unleashed a vicious uppercut that caught Sitthichai clean, taking him off his feet, crashing to the canvas. 

It was a brutal ending for a fighter whose career had been built on composure and years of experience. While Sitthichai had endured stoppages in some of his recent outings, those defeats came via body shots.  But this was a clean knockout that became a moment of reckoning for the legend.
